Table Tennis/Ping Pong
Our regular play times are Mondays and Wednesdays 4 to 6 pm,
Fridays 1 to 3 pm, Saturdays 10 am to 12 pm. Because of scheduling
conf licts for the Ballroom, we sometimes get bumped into "special
play times" that are updated on the SLCC website, and printed copies
are available on play days in the Ballroom. There is also a touch
screen monitor in Main Clubhouse Lobby where the schedule can
be brought up. If there are any questions or concerns, contact Gary
Lile at (805) 722-7427, 4lile@yahoo.com, or John Williams at (961)
489-9737, jgwms.williams@gmail.com. All comers are welcome,
the only requirements are laced tennis shoes, and a desire to have
fun, play with friends, and get some excellent health benefits from
a low risk activity.
2024 brought a lot of changes and challenges to say the least, but
here in Sun Lakes, ping pong stayed the same, and the scheduling
challenges over the holidays, were minimal compared to the fun
of the games. From time to time, we take videos of our games to
archive the fun. And it is fun to see us aging gracefully having fun.
On review of some of these, it is fun to activate the audio and listen to
random utterances from people while play is going on. The laughter
is spontaneous and infectious. Here are some examples:
"Mr. Bean (the comic actor) went to a funeral one day, then he went
to a marriage the next day, "Boom!" (After a slam), "Calm down,
it's only a game!" (After a kill shot), "I'm going to get the winning
shot" (one shot game, doesn't happen), "Eat that … it tasted good,"
in short, a cacophony of hoots, guffaws, grunts, cackles and wails…
Come on down to the Main Clubhouse Ballroom and indulge in
some old-fashioned healthy fun, we'd love to have you no matter the
skill level. We do observe all the rules of sportsmanship.
