Fairway Villas Community Association – Tues., March 18, 2025 Lakeside II Community Association – Thurs., March 27, 2025 Lakeside Community Association – Fri., March 28, 2025 2025 Annual Meeting of the Membership & Election of Directors In the early days of our Sun Lakes Country Club community Bob Ewert and Herb Watson were instrumental in staging Celebrity Golf Tournaments to raise funds to benefit the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Foundation. These first tournaments involved not only celebrity players, but golf professionals as well, including John Daly and Fred Couples. Later in the 1990s, Herb sought to increase funding and successfully sought donations from the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. Along with that, Bob worked to increase the number of events for greater participation by Sun Lakes residents and the fundraising grew to include more local charities. In the following years, as many as 13 events have been staged yearly and the Sun Lakes Country Club Charitable Trust was founded to provide the IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt benefit for continued operations of the fundraising activities. The California Trust is current with the State of California and the IRS. The Mission Statement was adopted in 2012: We are organized and operated by volunteers exclusively for charitable 501(c)(3) purposes to help meet needs in our community and the greater San Gorgonio Pass area in Southern California. All grants are provided by application from local organized charities. Event funding and donations make it possible for local charities to provide services that benefit the Pass Area communities for youth programs, arts & education, job training, medical services, helping seniors and meeting social needs. In 2013, the Million Dollar level of grants provided to local charities was reached and in 2023, the Two Million Dollar level was reached. This happens only with the volunteerism provided by Sun Lakes residents. Charity Week 2025 is scheduled for the week of June 3-8. The theme this year is Carnival which should offer some fun and exciting events. We'll be back with many of the tried and true events including the Monster Scramble, helicopter ball drop and of course, the ProAm. This year, we have some new participants, including the Wine Club with great new ideas for our Friday night event. If you would like to be part of the Charity Week team, please come to our next volunteer meeting on March 14 at 1 pm in the North Clubhouse.
