Come join us! We meet the first, third and fifth Mondays of each month from 1 to 5 pm. For info, call Jan Hamm at (951) 212-6799 or Vivian Myrdahl at (626) 221-0872. Top 'o the mornin' and sláinte to our Sun Lakes friends and neighbors. 'Tis a ghrinn (lovely) month to make some art! Melanie de Brocquy (1919 – 2018) was born in Dublin, Ireland and is most famous for her sculptural work. She studied at the National College of Art and Design and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Her works explore the female form and emanate an atmosphere of tenderness and respect. Other works, in addition to St. Patrick's Cathedral, are shown at Trinity College, American College Dublin, the Irish Embassy in Washington, and Magdalen College. In 1939 she was awarded the California Gold Medal. The Art League would like to take a moment to honor long-time resident and long-time Art League member, Jim Intravia. Jim worked at Boeing doing technical drawings, he is also a professional illustrator. In addition, he is an outstanding artist, noted for his extraordinarily realistic portraits. He and his wife have moved to Orange County, CA to be close to family. He will be missed! Winners of our January mini-art show are as follows: First place, Betsy Voss, who, using a paint-by-number template, created her own work of art using different colors and adding features of birds in a tree. Second place, Frank Bonarigo with an acrylic painting of a "Sophisticated Lady." Third place, Nancy Troyer who presented a double-exposure photograph of leaves and rocks. Our mini shows now feature two categories: Classic art: paintings, sketches, collage, and sculpture. The second category is: Miscellaneous art: adult coloring pages, paint-by-number, woodwork, jewelry, and photography. Note: please cast a vote for one piece in each category (two votes). Our meeting this month is on March 9 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Our guest artist this month is David Farrington who will demonstrate the art of sketching, drawing, and use of charcoal. His three classes will begin on Mon., March 10 at 9 am in the Main Clubhouse Arts & Crafts Room. Please sign-up at the meeting or contact Shirley Anderson at (951) 434-7930. Hope to see you there! For membership information speak to Helen Searcy at (951) 845-8198. Disclaimer: Just as our country has different political and religious beliefs, so do the many artists in the Sun Lakes Art League. We may not agree on all artistic expression, but we do agree that censorship has no place in it. March is the season of second chances — a time when the world begins again, and so can you. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2025 | 29 Quilters Willie Nelson by Jim Intavia Art League "St. Patrick," St. Patrick Cathedral, Dublin, by Melanie de Brocquy January Mini-Show Winners
