| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2025 | 3 By the time you are reading this we hope spring has sprung, the f lowers are blooming, winds have died down and warmer weather has arrived. Spring starts in March so the days will start to get longer and don't forget to spring forward-move your clocks forward an hour on March 9. Some fun facts about March: March 4 is Mardi Gras (AKA Fat Tuesday), March 15 is the Ides of March, so beware of the Ides of March and March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. Oh, don't forget March 11th is international fanny pack day. Did you know the moon reaches its peak illumination on the morning of Friday, March 14? Look for it on the evening of March 13, as the moon rises above the horizon! The Master Board has been working on several major projects during January and February including negotiation with a new management company for the Associations Food & Beverage operation. The Board has reviewed and approved contracting with Compass Hospitality CCL for management of Sun Lakes, food and beverage operations subject to a mutually satisfactory final contract. In addition, we are working with our attorney on a new contract for TV and internet service. We have proposals from both Spectrum and Frontier and expect to sign a new contract before our current contract with Spectrum ends in August. We are working with a consulting firm on a paving project for repair of streets in the community. A five-year plan is being developed with the first phase of the project starting early this year. Getting fire insurance is increasingly difficult both for residents and the Association. In late December of last year, the Board was informed the Association insurance premium would increase for 2025 by $156,000 to over $500,000. The Board is seeking volunteers who have insurance brokerage experience to assist in next year's budget. The Board has formed an ad-hoc working group that is researching possible ways to increase revenue on the golf courses. It is meeting monthly to present recommendations to the Board. It is NOT recommending the golf courses be opened to the public. The 2025 Master Board election is well underway. A Meet the Candidates Forum will be held on March 5 at 4 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Ballots will be mailed on Fri., March 7 and the annual election will be finalized on April 10 with ballots counted in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom starting at 9 am. The Sun Lakes Charity week is coming up June 3-8 and needs volunteers to make it happen. It's a week-long celebration full of events such as Happy Hour, the Pancake Breakfast, Monster Scramble, Music on the Veranda, Pro-Am and more. If you would like to get involved a little or a lot, please call Beverly Simmons at (909) 996-8569. "Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party.'" ~ Robin Williams Bob Walter, Beverly Simmons, Gary Burkel, Don Day From the Master Board
