18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2025 | Here we are, already in the third month of 2025 — make every day count and enjoy all that our beautiful community has to offer. Thomas Jefferson once said, "I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it." Your Master Board, all the Advisory Committees, management and our Restaurant & Lounge teams are all working hard to make Sun Lakes great for everyone. March 4 is "Shrove," commonly known as "Fat Tuesday" or Mardi Gras. Jimmy Buffet sang, "Pour me something tall and strong, make it a hurricane before I go insane." Ask Angel for Mardi Gras signature Hurricane cocktail. March 9 is National Crab Meat Day. Enjoy Two Pan Seared Crab Cakes Served With A Zesty Remoulade sauce and fennel citrus salad ($18). March 10 is Daylight Saving Time. Enjoy a light lunch or dinner with neighbors and friends. March 14 is National Pi Day — enjoy savory or sweet pies. Turkey pot pie with chunks of turkey and vegetables in a creamy sauce, encased in a flaky pastry crust is $16. Beef & Guinness Pie with tender beef cooked in Guinness Stout, onions and mushrooms, baked in a pastry crust for $18. Try one of our sweet pies for just $6 — apple pie, the classic dessert with spiced apples baked in a buttery crust topped with whip cream; silky pumpkin custard pie with warm spices in a crisp, buttery crust topped with whip cream; pecan pie with buttery filling, toasted pecans and notes of caramel in a golden, flaky crust, with whip cream. Time to get your green on … on March 15 and 16 you'll want to make your reservations early for this über popular dinner. Chef Joshua and his team have us covered with a traditional Irish American St. Paddy's Day feast that will include tender corn beef served with steamed cabbage and potatoes for $18. Finish dinner with a luscious green velvet brownie with mint chip ice cream for $8. I was recently asked a hard question to answer: What do Irish people drink? My answer…"quite a bit." LOL! Guinness is always popular; Angel's got a lot of Irish specialty drinks we'll be serving all month long. Enjoy trying an Irish Slammer, Leprechaun's Kiss, Shamrock Sour, Irish Coffee, Drunken Leprechaun or if you're looking for a popular Irish drink, one that's not overly strong, try Baileys. It's sweet and indulgent, great for after dinner. Then if by chance, you overindulge a well-known Irish hangover cure is "the crisp" a sandwich of Irish potato chips sandwiched between two slices of buttered white bread. Try our SLCC freshly made crisp chips nestled in a buttered dinner roll. Another cure for hangovers is a "flat 7Up," 7Up with a splash of hot water. It's widely believed by the Irish that a "flat 7Up" can cure almost anything. March 29 is National Vietnam Veterans Day commemorating the sacrifices of Vietnam Veterans and their families and is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon returning home more than 40 years ago. Here at SLCC, we honor all of our Vets, all the time. Come down and swap stories, shake hands and enjoy the camaraderie with a community that is ever grateful for all of you who served and are still serving in every branch of our military and all veterans of conflict and war. We honor and thank each and every one of you for your service. Our three venues — Sandwedge, Restaurant, and Lounge, have something for everyone's individual tastes. Your Restaurant needs your support — stop by for dinner, tea, coffee, or a cocktail. Reservations are always recommended (951) 769 6654. Until next month, always surround yourself with positivity, love, laughter, good friends, and family, and enjoy peace in your heart. ~ Carole Elliott, caroleelliott28@gmail.com Restaurant & Lounge Advisory
