As you develop your writing project, inevitably the question of value comes up. Remember that you want your writing project to be read. What is your intended audience? What value do you want the reader to take from your writing project? If your intended value is to establish a mood, a poem and song work well. Mood can also add value to a novel or short story. If your intended value is to stimulate the imagination, fiction is a good choice. This can range from short stories to novels to epic poems. If you enjoy creating characters, the first choice would be a novel, but any fiction piece would also be a good choice. If you want to develop an argument or point of view, an essay is a common choice, but a poem is another good choice. Even novels have been effectively used to develop a point of view by writers ranging from John Steinbeck to Charles Dickens to Ayn Rand. No matter what your choice, focus on your intended audience to help you decide. Now go ahead and write! Our Creative Writers Club has several experienced writers in many forms of literature. Come join us at Creative Writers Club meetings to share your ideas in a friendly setting, and listen to the writings and opinions of others. You will find this very stimulating. "ankful and Grateful" The Veterans of Sun Lakes wish to express our overwhelming gratitude to our out-going Executive Director, Will Baker-USMC (photo inset). His continuous and effective leadership efforts to increase both our membership size and bring recognition to the ever changing benefits available to Veterans has been remarkable. Will is a third generation Marine, with his grandfather having served in World War I, assigned to provide security during the building of the Panama Canal. His father followed by joining the Marines and saw combat in WWII including Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He later served in Korea before retiring after 24 years of service. According to Will, the examples provided set a clear pathway for him after graduating from college in 1974. A career in business followed his military service. He is enjoying his retirement now and especially the camaraderie and esprit de corps of our Veterans Club. Upon accepting the position of Executive Director, Will met with the Master Board in Sun Lakes, which among other accomplishments enabled our organization to become an official Club and be granted the acquisition of Colors (f lags), of our country including the American Flag, the United States Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard, together with the POW/ MIA Flag, all of which appear at each monthly meeting of our Club and otherwise are posted in the entry way to our Main Clubhouse. The Colors were officially presented at the March meeting of our Club. These symbols of freedom are also utilized in community parades and formal activities. With the leadership of Donna Baker and her wonderful team of supportive ladies, the Celebration of Veterans Day and the 249th Anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corps, was held at the North Clubhouse to a sold out crowd. Decorations were impressive while entertainment by Susan Fitzpatrick's group Fusion provided a patriotic musical tribute to our country including a medley of each branch of the service. Our monthly general meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. They begin at 9 am sharp.
