72 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2025 | James Otis McCallum, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025 at his home in Sun Lakes where he lived for 31 years. While at Sun Lakes, Jim had many good friends and participated in multiple activities. He took great joy playing on the various softball teams, participating in bowling tournaments and golfing with his Sun Lakes friends. Jim was born in Culver City, California and moved with his parents to Monrovia where he attended Monrovia High School. During his early work years, he was an X-Ray technician. Jim later had a long career at Allstate Insurance in the city of Glendora. After moving from Monrovia, Jim lived in Azusa with his wife Dee until they moved to Sun Lakes. He was a fan of the Dodgers and Vin Scully. He also rooted for the Angels, Rams and his beloved USC Trojans, much to the consternation of his UCLA loving wife, Dee. His greatest USC moment was when Anthony Davis scored six touchdowns against Notre Dame during a game in 1974. Jim was so happy, it moved him to write a song called, "AD, King of the Wild Frontier." Jim gleefully sang his song to all. Jim is survived by his brother Rex (Sara) McCallum, sister-in-law Earline McCallum, his children: Patrick McCallum, Kathy McCallum Carrithers, Scott (Anna) Purcell and Randy McCallum. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dusty (Jeneane), Casey, Kassandra (Joshua), TJ, Alexandra (Jordan), Christopher, Kyle, Chad, Matt, Cindy Kim (Thaddeus), Hershel, Jackson, Madeline, Aurora, Leonardo, Shelby, James, Emily, Ethan, Osborne, Rocsin, Vaughn, and Marley, nieces Cindy (Pat) Ireland, Shari Hennessey and nephew Matthew McCallum. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Dee McCallum, daughters Kim Barlow and Gwen Gibson, brother Charles McCallum and parents Dewey and Minnie McCallum. Bobby Ray Boatman, age 91, passed away January 24, 2025 at his home in Sun Lakes. He was born May 19, 1933 in Waxahatchie, TX. Bob was a hard worker his entire life. His first full-time job was running the film reels for the local movie theater at the age of 12. He had many more jobs throughout his life, including a short stint in professional baseball, but spent 40+ years as a salesman for the 3M company. He retired from 3M in his 60s, but held many other sales positions until he fully retired at age 89. When he wasn't working, Bob enjoyed fishing, travel, and his favorite pastime, golf. Bob was very active with the Sun Lakes charity golf tournament for many years. Bob is survived by his wife Donna Mae Boatman, his two daughters Brenda Lucia and Lisa Putman, his four grandsons and three great-grandsons. There will be a Celebration of Life for Bob on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 1 to 3 pm at his residence in Sun Lakes. "Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us.
