FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2025 55 Quilting Enthusiasts March is almost here. Where has the time gone? Several members of the Quilting Enthusiasts took a road trip to Ontario to see "The Road 2 California." Road is one of the first large quilt- related shows of the year. They offer lots of classes from well known quilt teachers from around the U.S. and abroad. There are vendors galore as well as a juried quilt show and special displays. There is a company, Cherrywood Fabrics, which has a contest every year judging quilts created using specific fabrics from their collection. This past year was a Poppy Red with several coordinating fabrics. The quilts that were displayed had images of poppies and many were in memory of World War I and the soldiers who fought and died or family members who served. Several of these quilts were extremely moving as the poppy became a symbol of remembrance after World War I. The quilt that won that contest is below. Other quilts that were displayed contained whimsical themes, portraits, and even a "still-life" quilt, that looks like a painting. The first photo below is of The Best of Show winner, called The Arrival. Here is a portion of the artist's statement: "An airship from the human realm has just arrived. It carries an emissary who hopes to establish friendly diplomatic relations with the resident elves in the interest of learning about their connection to — and mastery of — magic. This meeting will have resonating effects for both cultures." Our club meets the second Thursday of the month. Our next meeting is March 13 at 1 pm in Arts & Crafts Room 2. If you are interested in what happens to beautiful fabric that is cut-up and reassembled, stop by. We will be announcing a quilt challenge among our members and several workshops. If you are interested we welcome one and all regardless of your experience. Email me at 4seasonsquilters@gmail.com or marymoodycox@ gmail.com. ~ Mary M.
