It's hard to believe we are in March already. The Wine Club Steering Committee has been hard at work preparing for the year ahead. In January, we held our "Meet N Greet" for people interested in finding out more about the Wine Club and what we have to offer our members. It was a great success with many new people showing interest. The Thursday, March 20 meeting will feature a delightful selection of Italian wines, including two whites and two reds - deliziosa! There will be an educational session on Italian wines, their origins, the rating system used for Italian wines, and suggested food pairings. Important Reminders: Annual dues are $30 and are now due if payment hasn't been made. The monthly tasting fee is $10. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Amici e vini sono meglio Vecchi! The turnout was not as large as January but those who did attend participated in some great conversation with other car enthusiasts. On another note: now that we are experiencing pleasant weather we are nearing the car show season. It's time to start thinking about getting your ride out of the garage or storage. Living here in Southern California definitely has its benefits in owning a classic car. We do not have to contend with harsh winters that bring freezing temperatures and snow. Here are a few tips that will ensure that your beloved ride is ready to drive, show, or go: 1. Check the battery charge, making sure the battery terminal connections are snug and there is no corrosion. 2. Inspect wiring and hoses, check for rodent damage, cracks and loose connections. 3. Make sure your oil level is normal and get an oil change as soon as possible. 4. Top off air in tires and make sure the tread is intact (no f lat spots, bulges, cracks or balding areas). 5. Look under your vehicle for signs of f luid leaks. If leaks are found, look for the source and repair. 6. Have brake pads and shocks examined. 7. Verify that headlights, high beams, taillights, and blinkers are operating correctly. 8. Clear the exhaust pipes, and ensure that no critters have climbed in. 9. Air out and clean interior. 10. If you are satisfied with the condition and you have determined that your baby is road-worthy then drive it around the block at a slow speed to test the brakes and steering. 11. Wash and polish the exterior. We meet the first Saturday of each and every month at 9 am in The Lodge parking lot. Our next meeting will be March 1. Hope to see you there.
