QUILTERS
March is supposed to be the month of winds. Hopefully we've
already had our fair share of those for a while. But then there's St.
Patrick's Day! A time when everyone is Irish for a day. As a quilter
I like to learn of the quilts from all over the word. I found out that
quilting came to Ireland in the 1800s, being taught to the servants
by the English gentry. The most popular pattern is the Irish chain.
It's tiny little squares arranged in rows and is really good for using
up all that extra fabric you have. Then when it's done, you can
cuddle up with it and a nice Irish coffee.
The Solera quilters make all kinds of cute St. Paddy's decorations,
like this Celtic knot quilt. We're always happy to welcome any
new "Irish Roses" that may want to learn along with us. We meet
Mondays at noon in the Arts & Crafts Room. Until then, "sláinte!"
(Irish toast pronounced "slawn-sha")
