Gavin Newsom signed a new law to make electronic voting a possibility for community associations in the state. e law, which went into eect on Jan. 1, 2025, aims to maximize voter turnout and improve the voting process in communities just like Solera. is will enable members to vote electronically in Board elections and governing documents. However, any special assessment vote MUST still be conducted by written ballots only. Online voting systems oer customizable ballots, real-time results, and secure processes. Some of the new benets to electronic voting include increased member participation, eciency and accessibility, and enhanced security. But this won't happen overnight! Hopefully, Solera will be ready to go for next year's election. is process will take months of legal compliance, educating our owners, and pilot testing before it is launched in Solera. Management, along with the Directors, will ensure you receive adequate instructions on voting electronically, opting out, and key deadlines for the vote. Management will oversee the additional administrative tasks needed for written and electronic voting for smooth elections. is new law WILL NOT require membership approval for election voting. Solera's own Election Rules will need to be updated and go out for a 28-day review by our members. It does permit an association to adopt election rules to allow for an inspector of elections to conduct elections electronically. e new law also allows a member to OPT OUT of electronic voting and vote by traditional written ballots. is leap forward to use electronic voting should improve voter turn-out and help achieve quorums.
