| THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2025 | 11 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE By Sharon Carlson, Deputy Incident Commander FILE OF LIFE PROGRAM By Bud Siler, 310-367-2009 e recent wildres and power outages remind us that we need to have our own personal preparedness plans in place. I have included information for power outages and wildres. Wildres • Download WATCH DUTY application on your cell phone. • Listen for information and instructions from the local authorities. • If you are instructed to evacuate, please do so. • Be sure to always have gasoline in your car and, if electric, that your car is fully charged so that you are fully prepared to drive away. • Have a "GO BAG" prepared. https://www.ready.gov/sites/ default/les/2024-05/ready_supply-kit-checklist.pdf • Have a plan outlining how you will communicate with your loved ones. e File of Life is a form you ll out with all your doctor's information, any prescriptions, emergency contacts, pet information, and your current medical conditions and medication list. Place the form in a small folder on the side of your refrigerator and the File of Life sticker on your door or window. If paramedics are called, by looking at your le, they will quickly have most of your information. You can also carry a copy when you travel for quick reference and for any medical emergency. For those of you who already have the le but need to update it, I have the forms and have also given some to Cindy at the reception desk. You may contact me at the above number or email me at budsiler@gmail.com. Power Outage • DON'T PANIC. • Always have ashlights and batteries available. • Use caution if using ame-burning candles. • Consider using your barbecue grill for cooking but never use it indoors. • Keep refrigerators and freezers closed, if possible. • Have an alternative plan to store medications that require refrigeration, such as a small cooler with ice cold packs. • Work with your medical supply vendor and physician on developing a plan for medical devices powered by electricity. • Murrieta may set up public buildings such as libraries with generators to provide power for vulnerable populations. • Check on your neighbors.
