| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2025 | 39 It is exciting to know that as you are reading this, the Sailing Club's sailing season is just days away from starting. We had a great Do Dues Day. e Club's extensive sta was on hand to answer questions and, if that wasn't enough, the Club's slide show sealed the decision for many new members. Shortly aer, the Club held its rst general meeting where 130 or so members enjoyed pizza, cookies and refreshments while learning what the club is planning for the year Club communications and how to participate in Club activities. At its February Captains and Mates meeting, the Club scheduled 20 sails for the second half of March and all of April. In all likelihood, notwithstanding uncooperative weather, we will likely enjoy more than 20 sails. Hopefully, by now, you have had the opportunity to see the scheduled sails and know the dates they are going out and who the Captain and Mates are on each sail. Some sails will have two Mates. All of our planning in this regard revolves around having a great time while ensuring our sailors' safety. e sailing gear has been checked out and is ready for use. And while we hope there is no need, the rst aid kits have been inventoried and are ready to go. So, pick your dates and get ready to sail. In a few short weeks we will have the wind in our sails and the sun on our faces. Start planning your wardrobes if you are planning to be among the rst to sail. Remember, a chilly breeze can cool us down quickly. So, a hat, socks, gloves and layered clothing including a warm jacket are essential to have for the March and April sails. Also, many sails are set to a theme such as "dock and dine," anchoring in Glorietta Bay, open ocean or stay in the bay sails. Watch for them - there will be other sailing themes in the months ahead, too! Please watch the club news-mails. ere will be a whole host of special events coming down the pike. Our Training Coordinator will be scheduling a number of informational and training events at the Clubhouse. Want to learn to sail? ere will be a class for you! Want to learn about the harbor? ere will be a presentation for you! Want to learn about nuclear power? ere will be an excursion for you! Want to go whale-watching? ere will be a charter boat ride planned for that! Want to learn the history of the aircra carrier Midway at sea? ere will be a presentation given by a docent who served aboard her! And these will follow events that already took place in February, including a seminar on how whales communicate, a presentation demystifying articial intelligence (AI), a docent led tour of the Midway, and a visit to the decommissioned San Onofre Power Plant! e Ocean Hills Sailing Club anticipates a busy year of on-water and on-land events. If this newsletter has whetted your appetite, there is still time to join and get in the fun! Fair winds and following seas to our members and all our neighbors in Ocean Hills Country Club.
