| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2025 | 43 e Swim & Wellness Club oers three presentations every year on a dierent wellness topic. e entire OHCC community is always invited to our January meeting. We bring in speakers knowledgeable in tness, nutrition, or dealing with certain medical conditions. is past January, we oered an event focused on mental health, entitled "We Are More an Our Dierences." ree excellent speakers graced the stage of Abravanel Hall - Fabian Perlof from the Anti- Defamation League and from the National Conict Resolution Center, Daniel Orth and Gustavo Lorenz Barbosa. Facilitated by club president Michael Gordon, the panel spoke about bias and how to develop self-awareness of our own bias. If you're human, you have bias! It only becomes an issue if you act on it. We learned some ways to understand what's behind someone else's opinion. e panel encouraged us to be curious about "why" another person feels the way they do, which can lead to better understanding of a position that may dier from our own. We learned ways to have respectful conversations when there is conict between family members, neighbors or colleagues. It's important to recognize and learn strategies to deal with the emotional toll that we all experience when we are engaged in conict. For more information about these two groups, google them. You'll nd a multitude of resources on those websites. Sounds interesting? If you missed the presentation, you could watch it on the OHCC website. Search for "Video on Demand," then touch the blue link that says "Swim & Wellness Club Presents: We Are More an Our Dierences." We heard many positive comments about the presentation and some requests to have the panel returned for more in-depth discussion. Don't miss any of our wellness speakers.
