As we begin March and look forward to warmer weather, the memories of January have begun to fade with one notable exception: e Power Outages! What we experienced was unprecedented for our community. During this time, an emergency meeting of the Board took place along with representatives of the Emergency Preparedness Committee and the Facilities Committee. ree main topics were discussed: 1. Safety at our gates: Because of re regulations, both the front gate and back gate (at World Cup) have to remain open during a power outage. Securitas was tasked with having personnel at both gates. A decision was made to communicate with Securitas to assign additional manpower as needed to both gates. 2. Generator needs and requirements: During these outages, a generator was set up in e Lodge, powered by gas available at our barbecue area. is was used to enable residents to charge their electronic devices. We learned that this generator was barely able to meet these needs. A decision was made to acquire a larger generator. e Facilities Committee made a recommendation to purchase one and this was approved. In addition, the Facilities Committee will look at other options/ideas to supply electric power to e Lodge. A recommendation was made to use our current generator to power the World Cup gate. is is under consideration. 3. Communication: It is important to communicate when an event impacts our community. e Board, sta, and key committees need to coordinate and cooperate. An example of this: When a power outage occurs and e Lodge is aected, the Emergency Preparedness committee sets up a generator within e Lodge. Sta is available to help residents, as well as put lanterns in key areas, such as restrooms, etc. Going forward, we hope to use text, email, etc. to communicate with residents. e Board will continue to explore ways to improve communication. 4. Meeting with SCE (Southern California Edison): A zoom meeting was scheduled with SCE in February to understand why and how we are aected by power outages. We know we will continue to be impacted by the Santa Ana winds and understand that SCE has a responsibility to minimize re risks. We want to work with SCE to explore ways to minimize what we just experienced. As residents, we all have a responsibility to prepare for Adverse events. e Emergency Preparedness Committee has provided information to help all of us. Take the time to determine your needs and what to do when an event occurs. Talk to your neighbors and develop a plan of action. It was nice to observe residents, during the power outages, interacting at e Lodge while their electronic devices were being charged. Everyone did their best to be courteous and helpful to others. We do live in a great place! A nal note: Our Annual Meeting is in April. ree Homeowner Directors will be elected to your Board. Please take the time to read the instructions on your ballot. We need to receive enough ballots to achieve a quorum. Otherwise, we incur the expense of starting all over again with a new election. "I'm not saying I'm old... but when I was in school, we made our parents ashtrays... for Christmas."
