| SUN CITY CORE COURIER | MARCH 2025 | 11 Garden Club Friendship Club Join the Garden Club for Exciting Events! We meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 10 am. Sign in, enjoy refreshments and our plant table (members bring cuttings and plants for sale), view the Treasure Table (donated items are raffled), and visit with other members. Each meeting also includes a raffle ticket for door prizes. Though we do not meet in July and August, we are busily planning our September to June year. We have many activities planned, including touring another local botanical garden, hearing from a beekeeper and Master Gardeners, learning about the benefits of earthworms, water-wise gardening, and so much more. Come join the fun and learn all you can to create a garden oasis in our desert community. Our home tour is planned for April 2025, so do not miss out seeing what some of our members have planted and done to enhance their individual landscapes. There are so many gorgeous drought-tolerant yards that provide many benefits. Call us if you would like to join the tour! If the heat bothers you, plant a tree; if water bothers you, plant a tree; if you like fruits, plant a tree; if you like birds, plant a tree; and, if you like life, plant many trees. We are all about teaching, learning, and working together to make our individual spaces at home as much a paradise as possible. With drought-tolerant landscaping (not just cactus!), a yard can be transformed while using very little water. Come join our President Jennifer Lopez; co-Vice Presidents Jill Hardy and Valerie Gibson; and Treasurer, Camille Susca to learn about the fun things we can do to beautify our surroundings. ~ Jill Hardy Welcome to the New Year. During 2024, we followed our club motto, "Friends, Food, and Fun," which is also our meeting's agenda. 2024 was a successful year for the Friendship Club, and we are hoping to make 2025 an even better year. The club ended the year with a very successful holiday feast of turkey, ham, all the fixings, and dessert. We hope to continue into the New Year with this fabulous attendance that brings together our old friends and new friends. We so enjoy getting together to reconnect/connect and enjoy our shared dishes of delicious food. We are planning three Club Appreciation meals for club members only (this is reason enough to become a club member!). For the Club Appreciation meals, all the food is provided by the club. The Club Appreciation meal's themes are Cinco de Mayo (May), Barbeque (September), and the Holiday Feast (December). We are planning an additional food event, which is the Chili Cook-off (October). That's not bad for the $15 per member annual membership fee. To those of you who came to the Friendship Club in the past, I invite you to try us again. We have been listening to many suggestions and making adjustments. We are not the Friendship Club of yesteryear. I invite you to our Friendship Club meetings/potlucks at Civic Hall on the first Friday of every month. Doors open at 5 pm. From 5 to 5:30 pm, we have our get acquainted with our new and old friends. From 5:30 to 6:30 pm, we start sharing our food at our famous potluck. For those of us that enjoy cooking and baking, we get to share our favorite dishes. For the others, stop by the local grocery store/deli and bring your favorite food. I have not met anybody who thinks that doing dishes is fun, so we ask that you bring your own place setting (throwaway plate and utensils). Don't forget your favorite non-alcoholic beverage (coffee and water provided). Speaking of fun, at 6:30 pm, we finish the evening with games and story exchange. Please come and join us at Civic Hall next to the Billiards Room. See you soon!
