| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2025 | 15 Lights, Camera, Action! Outdoor lighting adds to safety, security, and the character of our homes. Of course, Sun Lakes has some rules. The main thing to remember is that outdoor lighting is limited to 550 lumens (that's about the amount of light an old 40 watt bulb produced). Lighting should be directed within a resident's property. Exposed wiring is prohibited. Any changes to lighting or fixtures require an architectural application and approval. Lighting needs to be simple in design and color and compatible with the design of Sun Lakes home. We are trying to improve the looks of our neighborhood, not recreate the look of a prison yard. Many residents are adding cameras to the outside of their homes. Again, these installations require application and approval. The main things the Master Architectural Committee looks for is an installation that is not conspicuous, that the camera is a stationary mount and cannot be moved, and that the view is strictly limited to the resident's own property. Camera views that look out to sidewalks, streets, common areas, golf course, or your neighbor's yards are not allowed. Camera monitoring the people and animals that may be in your yard is fine. Peeping at your neighbors' activities inside or outside of their homes is not. Lastly, there is only one type of artificial plant allowed in Sun Lakes. That is artificial grass. With the exception of a holiday wreath (or some such decoration), artificial plants and f lowers are not allowed. In the end, they tend to change colors and look tacky. Let's all work to keep Sun Lakes beautiful. Do your part by submitting applications for any changes to the exterior of your home (both front and back yards), ensuring we are all following the rules, and doing our best to maintain our property. ~ Jerry Howell, member, MAC Master Architectural The O Canada! concert was a resounding success, receiving enthusiastic feedback from attendees. This year, for the first time, the Recreation Committee implemented numbered seating, which greatly improved the experience. Guests found it much easier to locate their seats, resulting in shorter lines and a smoother entry process. Mark your calendars for an exciting evening! The Switchback concert will be Fri., April 4, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Tickets are priced at $15 per person, and there will be assigned seating. The doors open at 6 pm. In addition to the concert, Lifestream Blood Drive is the same day, April 4, in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room from 7 to 11 am. Your participation can make a significant difference. The Health Fair is Fri., April 25, from 10 am to 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. The Recreation Department, along with the Visiting Nurses Association and the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital, are sponsoring this worthwhile event. Cholesterol screening, spinal wellness, balance, and blood pressure are just a few of the many health issues that will be addressed that day. The event is FREE of charge and there will be door prizes! Also, be on the lookout for information regarding upcoming yard sales, which will kick off on Sat., May 3. Do not miss this chance to find some great deals. The Recreation Committee wishes you a Happy Easter. ~ Connie Cutner Recreation Advisory SPRING BINGO IS HERE! Time to be out and about!
