54 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2025 | POP Tennis POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis, is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court, with a different paddle, and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse usually on Thursday mornings from 8 to 10 am (fall/winter hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. Hours are subject to change, so it is best to check the bulletin board located at the courts for current play times. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Paddles and balls are provided too. For more information or to express a desire to be on a decision-making committee, please feel free to contact Carl Miller at (951) 512-3131 Hope you'll POP in! World Cup Tennis will return to the Sun Lakes Tennis Club on Sat., April 12, starting at 9 am. Four team captains will be recruited. Pre-registered team members will be selected for teams with attention to skill levels (2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0). The cost will be $5 for club members, and $10 for non-members. Each team, by the decision of the team captain, will represent a country. Over four months, April through July, meeting one Saturday morning each month, the four teams will compete for the 2025 World Cup. In our previous installment of World Cup Tennis the six countries featured by our four teams were: Canada, Portugal, Spain, Norway, USA, and Germany. Team members kept active, moving in and out of competition within sets, game by game. Once again, the intention is to keep all team members actively engaged with no one person on the court at all times. Club leadership is working to include as many club members as possible to take part. One more event is on our calendar for the month of April. It is our Saturday morning, April 5, Mixed Doubles Drop-In Mixer, starting at 8 am. There is no charge. Tennis balls are provided. Tennis
