We finally had quilting time to practice stippling. We had fun but need lots of practice, which we're going to do. Come join us — we're a fun group of great quilters willing to help if you need. We meet the first, third, and fifth Mondays each month from 1 to 4 pm in Arts & Crafts Room. For info, call Jan Hamm at (951) 212-6799 or Vivian Myrdahl at (626) 221-0872. Hiroshige came from a Samurai background. His apprentice work included boat illustrations and prints of female beauties and kabuki actors. About 1930, he began to produce the landscapes he is most famous for. As a master of "ukiyo-e," woodblock prints, his subtle use of color is essential to his prints often using multiple impressions in the same area with extensive use of color gradation. Possibly his most recognizable work is The Wave. It is said that "April showers bring May flowers." Those showers and flowers make perfect subjects for drawings, paintings, collage, photography, and even sculpture. Spring is the time of new beginnings, so why not try something new and pay the Sun Lakes Art League a visit! Our next meeting is Sun., April 13 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Refreshments will be served, and we will be hosting guest artist Bhadraji (Bud) Jayatilaka, the singing watercolorist. Bud will paint and discuss his style and technique, and you will have the opportunity to take his classes beginning Mon., April 21 in the Arts & Crafts Room. The price for all three classes is $30, members; $35, non-members. Please contact Shirley Anderson at (951) 434-7930 for further information and to reserve your spot in this class. Our February meeting mini art-show had many participants, displaying works in oil, acrylic, clay, decoupage, mixed media, pen & ink, and jewelry. We were happy to see so many people taking part. We now have two categories of art and gave out many ribbons. The winners are pictured below. Congratulations and thanks to all who took part. Please note: if you have entered and won a ribbon previously, please do not enter the same piece again. Thanks, again, to our February and March artists: Joe Oakes and David Farrington. Your work is outstanding, and your classes were fun and informative. New members are always accepted; only $20 per year! Helen Searcy has more information for you. Call her at (951) 845-8198.
