This is the perspective of the artist of the month, Lori Brown. "Although my partner and I moved here more than 10 years ago, I did not avail myself of much more than the pools and trails, that is, until recently. As a young girl, I drew, colored, and dabbled in various artistic attempts, including pottery classes. I also attended a few college drawing and mixed media courses. is was to fulll my academic requirements while my main focus was nursing. Looking back, I think the nursing major consumed all of my creative talents. As a critical care nurse I focused on solving the immediate needs and challenges of my patients. at expanded to my sta when I became a nurse manager. Later, as an adjunct Professor of Nursing, I expanded my attention on my students. Hours and hours went into developing visual learning aids, power point, and all that goes along with that. "e thread of my career was communication, Sometimes it was just verbal while other times, also visual. I'd draw rough sketches of anatomy to illustrate and educate. Recently I read, 'If words were enough, we wouldn't need art.' at struck a chord. I dug out my partner's drawing materials and joined Rob's class. My rst lesson, he taught me more than I had ever learned about my creative side and creating artwork in semester-long courses. He is an amazing and inspiring teacher. My classmates are very supportive, diverse, and accepting. One of the rst assignments was to draw something 'architectural.' I had fun with it, as well as exploring what is possible. Join us!"
