FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2025 55 Quilting Enthusiasts In February, several of our ladies toured one of the major fabric manufacturer's warehouse, Hoffman California Fabrics. We were greeted by our speaker and taken to the lecture area. On each of the chairs was a "bundle" of fabric from Hoffman, for each of the ladies, to take home. They had a great informational video of how Hoffman Fabrics creates their beautiful, hand-dyed batik fabrics in Bali. They also explained how the manufacturing of fabric has changed over the past 15 to 20 years. Fabric used to be printed on a "printing press." The maximum number of "screens" (think silk screens) is 18 different screens. The ink soaks into the fabric. The last screen contains either silver or gold over print to the design. The education continued with the fact that Hoffman has eight full-time fabric designers with occasional outside designers hired for "speciality" projects. Hoffman uses more than 300,000 yards of "greige" goods (not printed on), high quality 100 percent cotton fabric, for printing their designs. The designers are tasked with creating at least 800 different designs each year! After the tour, we all enjoyed an exceptionally fine lunch at a Mexican restaurant then we were off to shop at Quilt Passions in Mission Viejo. Our ladies have been busy quilting, designing quilts, enjoying their family, and of course more quilting. We are planning on some "hands on classes" coming up soon. The images below were from our show-n-tell in March. If you or someone you know wants to know more about the quilting club, they do not need to know how to sew with a sewing machine. There are lots of things that can be done without a machine, come to one of our meetings to learn more. Speaking of meetings, we meet on the second Thursday of each month in Craft Room 2 in The Lodge. Everyone is welcome.
