George Bernard Shaw once said, "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." Now that spring is here and we've changed our clocks to Daylight Saving Time, April promises to provide plenty of opportunities to get outside and play some tennis. The Tennis Club will participate in the April 4 and 5 Trifecta Racket and Paddle Battle, with the tennis portion of the event to be held on Saturday, April 5 at The Courts. If you are not signed up as a player, you can still come out and watch the competition. Next up after the Trifecta, will be a Tennis Club tournament on Saturday, April 12. The details were not available at the time of this writing, but you can save the date. The following weekend is Easter, so The Courts will be closed until noon on Sunday. This may be the year that chicken eggs cost more than Cadbury Crème Eggs, which are great snacks but shouldn't be hardboiled or hidden in the yard for the grandchildren. To wrap up April, the monthly Play Day will be on Saturday, April 26. As always, the Play Day is all about fun and playing with different partners in short games where players of all levels are encouraged to participate. All residents are welcome to play, because this event is not limited to Tennis Club members. Come on out and give it a try. Another opportunity for those newbie folks and those who play regularly are the weekly (except for the Play Days) Saturday FUNdamentals drills and practice conducted by our top club players. For some of us, the focus is more on the "mentals," than the techniques. While those are the Tennis Club activities for April, there are many other opportunities for just playing tennis. The morning groups play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with sign-ups available on the website. If there is enough interest, sign-ups for evening tennis can also be made on the website. There is definitely a lot of interest in the Ladies Tennis group on Thursdays. They sometimes use three courts having as many as 12 players who rotate doubles partners in (mostly) friendly games. And then many of the players go over to the Bistro for brunch and more friendship and more talking. So, go play something, kids.
