| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | APRIL 2025 | 9 Library Committee This year is 1/3 over; time marches on! Spring is here in full force, and flowers are everywhere. Flowers and books have a great deal in common. They both come in various sizes and colors. As flowers progress from seeds to buds to fully flowering, they eventually reach the end of their growth cycles. Books begin with ideas which are shaped into words, then pages with distinctive characters and plots, and finally reach their conclusions. Some books stand alone; others become a growing series. When flowers go to seed, many new ones may start the growth cycle all over again. Your Four Seasons Library is like a garden of flowers in many ways. The next time you visit the library, notice all the different colors of the book covers and the many different kinds of subject matter displayed there β fiction hardcovers on the left-hand wall; biographies, non-fiction hardcovers, large print, religious, classics, Spanish language, and New York Times #1 Best Sellers, all found in the bookcases behind the couch. Paperback fiction books are nestled in the top of the cabinets on the right-hand wall under the mural. Two revolving bookcases are at either end. The one to the left holds resident authors' books, while the one to the right holds soft cover non-fiction volumes. Don't forget to notice the magazines in the back of the room. Your library qualifies as a lovely garden of reading materials! Another variation of a garden is in the Computer Room β the puzzles! If YOU would like to help these "gardens" grow, please consider donating more recent books (2015 and newer for hardcover fiction; 2020 and newer for paperback fiction). Puzzles must be complete with 300, 500, 750, or 1,000 pieces. Monthly magazines should be within the past three months, or if a weekly publication, the current month. Oh, one more thing β all library materials, but the furniture, are donated by our residents. This is a unique feature of our library! I mention this because we often find suggestions to acquire specific books or authors in our Suggestion Box. Tips: Be sure to check not only the hardcover books' sections, but also the paperbacks' areas. Many books in our library can be found in both places. Also try looking through our large print, New York Times #1 Best Sellers, and classics sections. Until next month, keep visiting your library "garden" to see what's "blooming!" ~ Betty Crase Do you have a Power Li Chair or Electrically Powered Recliner? Are you physically able to get out of your electrically powered chair when the power goes off? If not, read onβ¦ How to Protect Yourself During A Power Outage. You should consider getting a back up battery powered Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), to plug your chair into, that plugs into the electrical outlet and automatically produces 120V AC power to your chair so that you can get out of the powered chair with the UPS power. In these stressful times, having access to personal financial, insurance, medical and other records is crucial for starting the recovery process quickly and efficiently. 1. Gather financial and critical personal, household and medical information. 2. Consider saving money in an emergency savings account that could be used in any crisis. Keep a small amount of cash at home in a safe place. It is important to have small bills on hand because ATMs and credit cards may not work during a disaster when you need to purchase necessary supplies, fuel or food. 3. Obtain property (homeowners or renters), health and life insurance if you do not have them. Not all insurance policies are the same. Review your policy to make sure the amount and types of coverage you have meets the requirements for all possible hazards. Homeowners insurance does not typically cover flooding, so you may need to purchase flood insurance from the National Flood Insurance Program. 4. Our Mission: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is designed to increase individual and community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-made or natural disasters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has officially recognized CERT as an important part of a community's disaster preparedness readiness. Four Seasons CERT continues to need your participation. Become a Street Captain or CERT Auxiliary. Step up. Be a part of the best CERT in the valley, come make a difference.
