| SUN CITY CORE COURIER | APRIL 2025 | 15 Chair Volleyball e Laughter Factory The most precious things in the world are free, such as air, sunshine, rain, and laughter, but you may not know that there is a laughter factory right here in Sun City where laughter is free and endless. During a game of chair volleyball, laughter explodes out of players — from the heart and from every cell in their body just laughing for the pure joy of it as they play with a roomful of seniors who love this game. The laugher is contagious, and it is okay to make a mistake and hit someone in the head, as it is just a volleyball. When that hit in the head allows the ball to go over the net to score, the laughter gets loud, and the clapping begins. As funny as it is, when we laugh out loud, it helps us to reduce tension as well as lightens our worries and our self-doubts. It's healing! Every Tuesday through Thursday morning and Friday night in North Town Hall, several big rainbow beach balls fly over nets, and the people on both sides are rather like a group of fun children — so lively and exuberant. But they are not young children; they are a group of old children, aged 55 to one 100! There are always snacks, warm hugs, and great coffee. The charm and magic of chair volleyball is not just the laughter. It also sharpens your brain, eye vision, and physical coordination. Players are always amazed how this exercise strengthens them and helps them with strategic thinking, especially to those who are handicapped. For most of us, the three mornings and one night per week of laughter and camaraderie is a very special time at the laugh factory. So, we encourage others to join us on Thursday mornings where new and beginning players can feel the fun and warmth that this sport provides. The only requirement to play is a sense of humor! Sun City Shueboard Club Seeking Members Shuffleboard is a classic game that has been enjoyed for centuries, offering a blend of skill, strategy, and friendly competition. Its charm lies in the balance of skill and fun, making it a great game for social gatherings. It is widely loved for its social aspect, but while it is competitive, the pace is slower than many other games, allowing you to enjoy the company and have time to chat between turns. Join us on Mondays from 1 to 3 pm, and Wednesday and Saturday nights from 6 to 8 pm, for a fun game. It's a fantastic way to unwind, compete, and connect with others. If you have never played the game, come learn! Or you can watch the Sun City Shufflers team competition league games. Shuffleboard membership is $20 a year. In this photo are a couple members of the Core community, Eileen Johnson and DiAnn Boykin, and some of the students showing off their spirit of love for square dancing! While our regular teacher Gumby (aka Brent Lively) is currently out for medical reasons, you can see Terri Sherrer seated in the background getting ready with the next dance. We will host our next dance on April 13, from 1:30 to 5:30 pm in North Town Hall. Come join us! Sun City Twirlers
