| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2025 | 31 If you attended the February Bingo, you know already, if not let me tell you the great news. e Bingo Flashboard is xed, yes can you believe it! Aer almost a year, the board is up and running. Greg Gamble, one of our players and volunteers, spent a signicant amount of time working on the equipment and through his persistence, attention to detail and talent nally got the Flashboard working. e Flashboard had its debut at our February Bingo. It was a bit tense at rst because we didn't know if it would continue to work the entire evening. However, from game one through the nal blackout of game ten, not a glitch was found. For me, for the rst time in almost a year, I was able to play Bingo for the entire ten games. Several people around me were winners, but as usual I was not. Next time? In February you also noticed that we are working on a more organized admission to the Hall and purchase of your game cards. With more players coming and so many "storming" the doors and cashiers the Bingo Board of Directors felt we need to implement some safety measures. You will now see organized lines and door monitors helping to make sure that our cashiers are not swarmed. Groups need to stay together, please. Your point person can purchase your cards, and the rest of the group can get seats, but you need to enter together. Please help our volunteers by listening to their directions, they are there to help keep you safe and the lines organized. In other great news – April bingo is "Pay your Taxes" Bingo night. Mark, your calendars players April 5 is our Bingo play date. Just two weeks aer our March date. If you are a regular player, you know that "Pay your Taxes" Bingo is an amazing and lucrative evening for some luck player(s). e nal game of the evening will pay $500. Yes, you read that correctly. e blackout game, game 10, is a guaranteed $500 to the winner. If you don't play, you can't win! We look forward to seeing you on April 5. Remember that door opens at 6:15 pm and the rst number called will be at 6:45 pm. Our April sponsors are resident and Realtor Andrea Anderson and Tim Miller of San Diego Kitchen and Bath. Anonymous BINGO March 6, 2025, OHCC Magazine Papercraing Club Article Since the PaperCraing Club (PCC) was established, it has always tried to adapt to meet the needs of its members— currently numbering 63. rough the Covid years, classes were Zoomed (through a subscription to the Zoom Meeting Application) to the group members to share techniques and ideas on how to create beautifully handcraed greeting paper cras. Aer the closing of the OHCC recreation center during that time, most classes moved to virtual computer classes. One group of paper craers continued sharing classes on the Zoom application long aer the pandemic was over and continued to this day — Zoom Group 2. e reasons vary for their choice whether or not to return to the OHCC meeting rooms. ere were health issues which prevented members from joining PC classes at the Clubhouse. Also, the convenience of having all the supplies at their ngertips at home was a factor. e group explains that so many times you come into class with a great idea, but you may not have all the materials, paper, colors, inks and tools to complete a card from that idea. Currently the Zoom Group has 10 members and a weekly process for creating cards. ey begin the week of class by deciding among themselves what technique or idea they will use in their Friday class. During the week, a video or other instructional information will be sent to members which they watch and/or read in preparation for class. At class, they create the card (with lots of preparation) and have more time to talk and socialize with other members. "We have freedom," say members. e group is not working with room scheduling and taking paper and supplies to the recreation center but enjoying time socializing with other members. "Our creativity is high, and we have complete creative license," adds the group. Whether meeting in person or via Zoom online, Paper Craing Groups continue to adapt to the needs of its members and continue to grow its membership. It's very much a social club, according to the group. Please note: Beginning in March, the Zoom group moved their meeting time to Mondays from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
