Happy Passover and Happy Easter to all! So happy that spring has sprung! We can get outside to enjoy the fresh air, the sunshine, and the longer daylight. e change is certainly a mood booster giving us more energy to play outdoors. is month we celebrate our "Spring Eggstravaganza," on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. e festivities will begin at 10 am near the Casa on the Golf Course. ere are plans for age-appropriate egg hunts, bounce houses, face painting, and Hip Hop the Bunny will join us for photos. It is one of the best events, in the year, for families to come together. One year we held a "Seniors" egg hunt, and the area used was greatly reduced to accommodate those that met the criteria. It sure created a great many laughs for all who participated. Refreshments will be served, bring baskets for the kids, go swimming, and perhaps lunch on the Palm Court(?). If guests are coming, residents should plan to have them arrive earlier, as to avoid waiting at the entrance for access into the community. e Computer Room in the Clubhouse is available for residents to use. ree new Apple computers have been installed, and three existing PCs have been updated. A local company oversees the technical aspects of maintaining them with the help of qualied residents. e old computers were donated to a local school to use. We appreciate those who have taken an interest in keeping this room up to date over time. A big thank you to each of you, not wanting to be identied, you know who you are! e Ancestry class continues, instructed by residents and providing a wealth of information from "whence you came." Across the hall, the Photography Club is displaying a grouping of outstanding photographs. With the help of residents Marcie Geisser and Chuck Fasilis, there are 13 photos depicting the theme of "So Cal Living" along the corridor. e rst-place winner was awarded to Mitchell Ehrlich. Congratulations to all who participated. Come and appreciate this eye-catching display! We will introduce wristbands, in May, for the guests that visit the pool area. is will last through the summer months until Labor Day. e wristbands have been ordered in two sizes, one for adults (red) and one for children (lime green). e process will be simplied so that frequent users will not have to come to the Front Desk each time to register. Pool rules will be dispensed upon registering guests. Residents need to accompany their guests when using the Clubhouse amenities, including the courts, the pool/ spa, and the Golf Course. More information to follow. Fling Golf was introduced last month as a special interest group. Resident Don Quigley had approached the Master Board asking for a trial run. Everything came together, once approved. Golf rules, etiquette, and usage were all part of this discussion. e rst launch was a clinic organized on a beautiful Saturday in March. Four Golf Pro "ingers" joined over 100 residents learning how to drive, chip and putt. e sport is growing, played with only one "ing stick" and is now being played on local courses. Proponents say although they once played the game of golf, this game is much easier on the back. e Recreation Department will continue to support the sport, and we hope this will become an exciting leisure activity for all ages to enjoy. Be sure to check out our Clubhouse Information Hallway. is will provide updated information from the clubs, class instruction, and community wide updates. Ask a sta member to introduce you to the information made available. e Clubhouse is a fun place to work; we hope it will be a fun place to meet neighbors, create memories, and make you smile. Remember: ere are always owers for those who want to see them! 18 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2025 | Recreation News By Christy Bessey Another delightful shuttle ride. Aer having a total knee replacement four months ago, I am back to riding the shuttle. I wondered how hard it would be getting in and out of the large vehicle with a knee that still had some quirks. I am pleased to say I accomplished that, even getting into the back seat. e vehicle has two sets of turn-down seats and handholds to make it easier, plus the driver is always there to give assistance if needed. So, if you have some physical diculties, you can still ride the shuttle. My neighbor Pam and I decided to go to Las Posas and have lunch at Sammy's. As always, we met a very nice group of people going o to do some shopping and they always have some good conversation to make the ride enjoyable. Since Juan, the usual driver, was busy today, we had Maha take us to our destination. He decided to take the scenic route down Sunset Drive on the way to the freeway and we got a view of "old Oceanside/Vista." Some of the riders had never been that way before and it was interesting to see what it looked like. We even passed the egg man's farm, although today he was selling potatoes. Amanda, an 11-year OHCC resident, is very fond of the shuttle and has talked to some of her friends about it. Unfortunately, some of the ladies she knows have expressed fears of riding this strange vehicle. Well, we (Amanda, Bernadette, Jan, Pam and myself ) would like the ladies of OHCC to know that not only is our ride very safe, driven by a competent and helpful driver, but it is comfortable as well. So come join us on Tuesday or ursday, morning or aernoon. All you have to do is sign up at the Clubhouse by 2 pm the day before. en wait for the shuttle to come to your house for a pickup at the assigned time . It could not be easier, safer or more fun.
