6 | LIFE IN SOLERA | APRIL 2025 | It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of our Library volunteer leader, Denise Westcott. She and her husband Fred both passed away on Feb. 14. Denise had decades of professional experience in managing libraries and used her expertise to make our Solera Library better. She will be greatly missed. Over the next several weeks, you'll be seeing some changes to our Library. Our Library is a nice resource for our book-loving Solera residents, but we just don't have enough room for everything. We can only make space for new books by removing some old ones. We also plan to rearrange the books to free up shelf space and make it easier to find what you want. The Library will be in a state of flux for a few weeks but will be better when the process is complete. If you have small quantities of books to donate, simply drop them off in the book return area in the Library. For larger quantities, contact Tom Chase by email at tdc4620@aol.com. If you're interested in joining our small Library volunteer group, please contact Tom. Library Committee Solera CERT Cadre HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF EVENT On April 19 (Saturday) the CERT Team will be teaching a class titled "How to Prepare for the Next Public Safety Power Shut-Off Event." The class will start at 10 am and last about an hour and a half. The class will be held in the Clubhouse in OM1-3. The class is open to all residents, resident caretakers and Solera staff. There is room for about 65 attendees. Walk-ins will be accepted on a space available basis. I am asking for a couple of residents who experienced the power shut off events in January 2025 to speak to the class brief ly about how they personally endured the power shut-offs. The class will go into a little more detail on what a PSPS event means and how we as a community can better prepare ourselves for the next PSPS event. There will be several items on static display as well as a separate hand-out material table. Refreshments will be served. If you are interested in attending the class, please RSVP Ron Monroe at (909) 732-6139 or email at ronoap@aol.com as soon as possible. The CERT meeting date and time has recently changed. The new meeting date and time is the second Monday of the month at 9 am in the Arts & Crafts room. If you are interested in joining the CERT Team, please attend the monthly meeting. We'll get you started on the required training and set you up with all the information you need. The CERT Team (Community Emergency Response Team) plays a vital role in the Solera community's ability to respond to a community wide disaster such as an earthquake. The Solera CERT Team, when activated will only be deployed within the Solera community. The CERT Team also holds community training events on a regular basis. These training events are opened to all residents and staff. You do not have to be a CERT team member to attend the classes. On May 19 a CPR/First-Aid class is being offered to Solera residents. Please sign -up in the Admin Office. Please consider taking this life-saving class. The next CERT meeting will be April 14 at 9 am in the Arts & Crafts Room. Hope to see you there. ~ Ron Monroe, Acting CERT Team Leader, ronoap@aol.com, www.solera-cert.info Flashsh 200 watt battery station Anker cell phone charger Royce on his bed, doing his power shut-o thing
