16 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2025 | As spring continues to bloom everywhere before our eyes, one can't help but to be captivated by the budding of trees, the smell of cut grass, and the bursts of color all around us as f lowers position themselves center stage for our enjoyment. As in days gone by, one can't help but to reminisce this time of year when everything smells new and fresh, melting away the cares and worries of yesteryear. Yes, the magic of spring… As the buzz continues for our community to have a Community Garden, (details still being planted, cultivated and watered) spend some time thinking about what you might grow and enjoy nurturing. For me, all this knowledge f loating about is inspiring, and for the first time I feel confident to exercise my green thumb in organic vegetable and herb gardening. For instance, I did not know that planting a few marigolds in with the vegetables deters insects and pests. I am also learning what season is best for which plants so when it's time for harvest I don't wonder why nothing grew, (or worse, wilted in the hot sun). Remember there is 'full sun' and then there is 'Hemet' full sun. The nurseries and garden centers around us are overf lowing with everything you need to get started. Whether you're a novice, (like me) or you're the go-to expert, lose yourself in the dirt, manure of choice, and variety of what's calling you to plant. Raised, cedar beds are my choice for planters, and organic soils, vegetables and herbs are always a healthy choice. (Not to mention the f lavor of home-grown is amazing!) I will report again in June "how does my garden grow." Our May meeting will be on Monday the 12th at 1 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room. Sue Watt will take the wheel for this month as Albert and I will be standing on the Garden Isle of Kauai getting married on this very same day! We promise you all lots of pictures from this very special rain forest environment that we will lose ourselves in for two weeks! We welcome all Four Seasons residents to meetings and excursions as we always look forward to meeting our neighbors. Happy Spring and Prosperous Planting!
