The Facilities Committee has been hard at work to ensure our community remains a pleasant and functional place for all residents. While major upgrades like street renewal, solar power and new lodge HVAC systems are important, it's the consistent attention to smaller tasks that truly make a difference in our daily lives. Some of the minor yet impactful projects that the committee has delt with recently include: • Gym Equipment and Pool Upgrades and Repairs: Keeping our fitness facilities in tip-top shape for active residents. • Broken or Worn Furniture Fixes: Restoring comfort and usability across common area spaces. • Lodge Roof Leak Repairs: Preventing potential damage and ensuring a dry, welcoming environment. • Lighting Replacement/Improvement: Enhancing safety and visibility around community areas. • Brighter Sports Courts Bulbs: Improving visibility for night- time games and activities. We strive to promptly address these smaller issues, as they contribute significantly to maintaining the quality of life within our community. As always, we encourage residents to continue sharing feedback or reporting any facilities related concerns. Together, we can keep things running smoothly and keep our community one of the best. Facilities Committee May is finally here! This is the time of year when everything is at its peak. Roses are blooming, grass is bright green, trees are fully in leaf – it's the best month of the year here in Hemet. But it's also the last mild weather of the year – so get out there and enjoy your garden. Have friends over and relax in the balmy air – preferably with some yummy drinks and snacks. Light up the barbeque and revel in the beauty of nature that surrounds us here in Four Seasons. When you're done enjoying the garden, it's time to take stock. Which plants are thriving? Which could use some TLC? Are there some areas in your garden that don't look as nice as you'd hoped? Sometimes, plants that should do well in our climate fail to thrive – or actually die. When this happens, it's a good idea to do a little post- (or pre-) mortem investigation. Many times, failure to thrive is obvious such as a lack of irrigation or simply getting shaded out by larger, more vigorous plants. Other causes are less obvious such as soil contamination, insect damage from grubs or plant diseases caused by parasitic nematodes. Once you know the cause, you can prevent it from happening again – or possibly spreading to other plants. The Landscape Committee conducts informal postmortems for plants that die or fail to thrive. Over the years, plants that once did well such as Carolina Cherry, dwarf nandina, and pittosporum no longer thrive in many places. A big cause of the problem is heat buildup with a secondary cause being tightening irrigation requirements. To help maintain the lush Four Seasons look we love, the Committee is testing new types of plants. One of the new plants is Dwarf Westringia (Westringia Brevifolia) – a very tough, small shrub that you may have noticed popping up in the planters of The Lodge parking lot. This plant is being used to replace dwarf nandina and variegated pittosporum. Using this plant helps us keep the lush look that we love – while standing up to heat, requiring little water and even less maintenance. Maybe you could use this tough little shrub in your garden. The Landscape Committee welcomes our newest member: Joni Kipling. Joni is a master gardener with experience setting up community and school gardens. We welcome Joni's expertise and look forward to her contributions to our community. 6 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2025 | Landscape Committee Dwarf Westringia in e Lodge parking lot
