| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2025 | 9 When objective truth slides into the realm of individual 'truth,' conf lict ensues. Individual 'truths,' pseudonyms of opinions, form from life experiences and material to which we expose ourselves. It's easy to become closed to any opposing view when we become locked in a 'truth.' We can polarize to camps reinforcing similar views and become intolerant of anyone who is not of like mind. But what if a different perspective can open doors that explosives failed to budge? Optical illusions readily show that two different things can be simultaneously true, with both truths easily apparent dependent only upon the perspective from which they are viewed. When you look at the picture on the right, what animal do you see? Is it a rabbit or a duck? New perspective allows the vision of something to which you were previously blind. A change of perspective can do that. The election is over. The votes have been tabulated and recorded. We have a new Master Board of Directors and with it comes new perspective. The new Board has the challenge of finding common ground and a unified vision for how to steer the HOA. That's their great challenge — working together without animus to improve our community. Easier said than done when passions run hot, but the best results come from individuals bonded together by unified purpose. When fractious personalities demand acceptance of their ideas, the friction created degrades the group, detracting from their mission. People do not make well-reasoned decisions when dominated, not by a better idea but silenced through intimidation. The results are less than optimal no matter the group, from the Board to a club or your family. There are always different perspectives and we only need listen to be able to see them. Starting last May, the Delegate Assembly spent three consecutive workshops discussing which HOA issues were most pressing. We needed to create priorities of order in which the topics would be addressed. Delegates brought forth 42 items for discussion and potential further action. In this truly collaborative effort, everyone had equal opportunity to speak their minds and priorities were determined by group vote. We've addressed many of the community's issues and changed a number of ways in which the District Delegate Assembly operates. Despite some initial rough patches, the group has accomplished much and done so without engendering ill will among it's members. We still have a long way to go but bright, committed minds will get us there. Delegates need the input of residents in their Districts. It's the way that problems get referred to the Board where meaningful action can be considered. Individual comments have their place but a resolution from the Delegate Assembly to the Board will definitely be on the Board's agenda. It's the way we can all be heard, see situations from another's perspective and help support the new Master Board improve the entire community. ~ Cal Martin From the Delegate Assembly
