| OHCC LIVING | MAY 2025 | 7 By Tom Porter, President Are you prepared for the "What If?" From a minor mishap like spilling water on the floor to major occurrences such as your home catching fire, your vehicle being totaled in an accident or a serious health crisis, have you thought about what steps you can take NOW to minimize the disruption that any of these situations may cause? A water spill – it happens, you are not concerned, you have experienced this before. You all know having a paper towel or towel handy to clean it up is important so you do not slip and fall. House Fire – Traffic Accident – Health Crisis, all these require you to think through how to address the multiple things that need to be done to minimize their effect on you. These are occurrences that you may not have confronted before, so you need to take the time now to plan and prepare. Luckily, there are reliable websites at your fingertips to help you be ready. The San Diego County Emergency Management System offers a website and a free app, SD EMERGENCY that is downloadable for Apple and Android devices, providing essential information and notifications during emergencies. Once the website is downloaded, it gives users the opportunity to choose the types of emergency situations about which they wish to be notified. This includes evacuation status, designated evacuation areas and provides maps showing locations and what you need to do. The app aids you step-by-step in developing a plan, building an emergency kit, helping you stay informed during an emergency, and explains how you can utilize other emergency services within San Diego. By being prepared and staying informed, your safety is greatly improved! Another recommended app is the American Red Cross First Aid app, offering guidance on addressing first aid issues in emergencies. In conclusion, staying informed and prepared is essential for that "What If " moment. Downloading and utilizing apps like those provided by San Diego County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross can significantly aid in emergency preparedness and response efforts. Both apps are free and crucial for emergency preparedness. The OHCC SERT (Safety Emergency Response Team) Club welcomes new members and offers opportunities for involvement, including in-home safety surveys and enrollment in American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED classes. Club membership costs $12 per year per person. For more information, visit www.ohccsert.com. Spring is here! Hopefully we are past the weeks of rain and embracing the beautiful sunshine and cool air f lowing when you are out walking. Make sure to have a water bottle with you and make sure to stay hydrated, you never know when there's a hot day. Just to readdress bicyclists, please, please, please follow the rules of the road. Part of our rules and regulations is there are no bike lanes. Bicycles are moving vehicles that need to abide by the rules. That means stopping at stop signs. I have received concerns about bicyclists not stopping and cars almost hitting them. I would like to remind all residents to remind your friends and family that your life and safety should come first. Just because stopping at a stop sign is a pain, it shouldn't mean you should not do it. A friendly reminder to also remember closing your garages. As the days are getting hotter, I know leaving it open helps ventilate it. Just because we live in a close community shouldn't mean we should not be cautious. As a reminder, once trash day is over, which is every Wednesday unless an observed holiday by Waste Management delays the trash pick-up, cans should be put away and not just left on your driveways or visible from the streets. Community patrol is making their rounds and citing accordingly. Any questions regarding rules and regulations, please do not hesitate to contact the front gate. I or any of the other officers will gladly answer them; we seek compliance and adherence to the rules established at Ocean Hills Country Club. Any actions performed by the patrol officers that you would like me to address, call or email me. That should be it for now! As always, thank you OHCC residents, for your vital role in our community. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in adhering to the rules. We are committed to serving you and the community; your feedback is invaluable. If you have any concerns or suggestions that you would like to see addressed in a future issue of Living Magazine, we encourage you to share them. Please feel free to contact me via email or phone. My office at the front gate is always open for Ocean Hills Country Club residents. ~ Tony Duong, Account Manager, Securitas Security Services, (760) 766-1458, cell (760) 505-2146, Tony.Duong@securitasinc.com Community Patrol Services WHAT IF?
