The month of May brings us to the most popular day of the year to enjoy a favorite restaurant - Mother's Day. Here we wish all mothers a beautiful day to celebrate with family and friends. Calling all mothers: come by the Clubhouse on Sun., May 12, to pick up a red rose (respect and love) or a white rose (in remembrance of mom). "Successful mothers are not the ones who have never struggled, they are the ones who never give up, despite the troubles." - Sharon Jaynes Tri-City Medical is coming on Thurs., May 8, for their lunch and lecture series. Topics of discussion include: the Parkinson's Journey, Think Smart & Stay Sharp, and Fraud Prevention. Tickets will be available for lunch, or one can attend the lecture beginning at noon. Our wristband distribution will begin the day after Memorial Day, May 27, for all pool guests. Please come by and register before entering the pool areas. A resident must always accompany all guests. At the time of registration, a staff member will inform users of the process. A copy of the pool rules will be made available upon registration. Rules to remember are: Observe all signs, there is no lifeguard on duty, please watch all children. Children under the age of five are not allowed in the pool. Children swim from 11 am to 2 pm during the week. On weekends and holidays, they can swim from 11 am to 3 pm. No inflatable objects/toys are permitted. Food, alcoholic beverages, and smoking are not permitted but enjoy dining in the Palm Court. Only non-breakable water containers are to be used. Lap swimming Skedda reservations now allow for three reservations per seven-day week. As the summer approaches we expect more users to sign up. Most importantly, swim with a smile! The Recreation Department has purchased new equipment for stage performances. This includes an additional riser, music stands, and a transport cart. In the next few weeks, an order will be placed for new Palm Court patio umbrellas, canopies for outdoor events, and folding chairs. This year's 4th of July celebration will include a morning parade and a lunch. Tickets will be for sale in June. An ice cream social and a movie night are in the works for summer programming. The Resident vs. Staff Water Volleyball is coming up and we are off and running for the surge of activity that comes with the warmer weather. Our weekend receptionist, Lesly Romero, will be leaving us shortly to pursue other interests. Our current administrative staff will be changing their schedules until a replacement is hired. We appreciate having Lesly on staff and will certainly wish her the absolute best. Memorial Day brings us to the beginning of summer, permission to wear white pants if we have lived on the east coast and making plans for an upcoming vacation. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and honoring those who have died in service to our country, not a day to celebrate in the traditional sense. Encouraging all of you to remember those who have served and saying a simple "thank you." 18 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2025 | Recreation News By Christy Bessey
