38 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2025 |
Our spring sailing season is off to a good start with six sails
completed in March and 22 in April. There are 18 scheduled for May
and 15 for June. We had only one or two cancellations due to the
weather in March. Training Coordinator Dave Ramgren continued
with his training exercises with a Get to Know our Harbor, knot,
and "lookout" clinics. In addition, Dave led several Newbie sails.
On May 13 he will lead a Get To Know Our Boats clinic discussing
the parts of a sailboat ad what makes a sailboat sail. In addition,
the club is working with some outside experts to coordinate onsite
speaking and classroom events. More to follow on these.
During Cycle 1, club members could only sign up for one sail. In
cycle 2 (May & June) members will be able to sign up for multiple
sails (in the two weeks preceding the sails) and invite guests to
join in the fun. Minors 12-years and older will be able to sail as
a member's guest. Of course, it is always wise to clarify inviting a
minor on a sail with the Captain on that sail. Hopefully, the ability
to have guests and minors aboard will create an opportunity for
grandparents to enjoy a day of sailing with their family.
The weather is warming up and the days are longer! Let's all go
sailing and bring guests, family members and minors to create
some wonderful memories. And remember, red skies in the
morning, sailors take warning, red skies at night, sailors delight!
May all our members and our OHCC neighbors enjoy fair winds
and following seas. Written by Commodore Skip Maniscalco and
