Supervisor's Message By Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez BACK IN THE SWING As spring gives way to summer and the fairways rm up under the sun, golf returns to center stage. e itch to play intensies, the driving ranges ll up, and clubhouses echo with familiar chatter. But before you grab your driver and head straight to the rst tee, consider this: a thoughtful return to the game can set the tone for your entire season. Whether you're a weekend warrior or a competitive amateur, getting your game back in shape aer time o requires more than enthusiasm — it demands a plan. Here's how to ease into summer golf with purpose, precision, and a little bit of patience. Start Small: Begin with short irons, like your wedge or 9-iron. Hit half and three-quarter shots on the range. ese controlled swings help rebuild rhythm and reinforce solid contact without the pressure of distance. Tip from the Range: Focus on balance and tempo. Swing at 75 percent eort, and nish in a full, balanced pose. at's oen a better sign of quality than where the ball lands. e Unsung Hero — Your Short Game: ere's no faster way to lower scores than by tightening up your touch around the greens. Yet it's also the rst part of your game to go rusty. Greens are rming up and speeding up. Putting Priorities: • Start with short putts (3 to 6 feet) to build condence. • Work on distance control from 30 to 40 feet. Lag putting saves strokes. • Use tees or coins to create landing zones for chips — this sharpens your feel and improves consistency. Remember: You don't have to reinvent your technique. Just refocus on feel, tempo, and setup. Set Simple, Smart Goals: Golfers are natural optimists. But "breaking 80" or "xing my slice" aren't goals — they're outcomes. Instead, set process-based goals: • Hit 10 greens in regulation per round • Hit eight out of 14 fairways • Limit three-putts to one per round • Keep the ball in play o the tee on 12+ holes Track this overtime. Improvement comes from consistency, not epiphanies. Call in a Pro (Briey): One of the smartest things you can do early in the season. Book a single swing check with one of our teaching professionals. A 30-minute lesson can: • Identify early-season bad habits • Reinforce your strengths • Help set realistic expectations Even pros don't go it alone so neither should you. Final ought: Play with Purpose. Summer golf is more than a game; it's a rhythm, a ritual, a return to something familiar and freeing. But success on the course doesn't come from grinding, it comes from playing with intent. So, stretch, swing smart, and give yourself time to settle in. e courses are green, the air is warm, and the season is young. Welcome back. SIDEBAR: GOLF GEAR CHECKLIST FOR SUMMER • Regrip worn clubs (grips should be tacky, not slick) • Check your glove — replace if it's stretched or torn • Clean your grooves for better spin and control or buy new wedges. • Stock up on balls, tees, and sunscreen. • Update your yardage book or GPS device.
