34 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2025 | Approved as a club last year, the mission and vision of AHCC is to celebrate, appreciate, and share the joys of our African heritage and common identity at Sun Lakes Country Club. These ongoing social events keep us connected to each other and our shared history. AHCC has been listening to the diverse interests of our members and those who are considering membership. Our members are making new connections with new possibilities! The African Heritage Connection Club has held well received meetings and events, so far this year. For the next half of this year, we are preparing to embark on a series of wonderful events and activities. Our meetings and extraordinary events have something for everybody. Another fabulous experience for our May meeting, with the viewing of the movie Red Tails (Tuskegee Airmen), followed by discussion. A delicious meal of red beans and rice with sausage, salad, cornbread, and dessert. This month is our well anticipated Juneteenth Celebration: Juneteenth Jazz Jam, featuring Cornelius "Corney" Mims, Otis Hayes, Richard Turner, and more. Tickets are $35. Tickets will be available for sale via drop box located at 4981 Rio Bravo. Checks must be made out to AHCC. A Gospel Music Brunch in September, and a Black author reading and Black artist show in the fall. Excursions are also on the agenda with, a day trip to the African American Beginnings Museum. We also seek to continue our engagement with everyone to identify your specific interests for participation as we enhance our 2025 and 2026 calendars. With AHCC Sun Lakers can always expect engagement, a little fun, lots of camaraderie, valuable information, and a down-home meal, at our' meetings and events. Dinner is available for $15.
