| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2025 | 47 Summer is almost here and it's a busy time for gardeners. e Old Farmers Almanac says June is the time to do a 'Chelsea Chop' on your perennials that get too tall and leggy. "Pruning now would result in three more weeks of f lowers at the end of their season! … and a better looking, fuller, more compact plant." As for vegetable gardening, don't miss this month's meeting on June 11. Our Garden of Eat-em guy, Pat Pennington always has useful information to share on the topic. The featured speaker for the June meeting is one of our favorites, Ron Duncan. Not only do we get an update on our local bee population, we also hear some very interesting and entertaining stories. Now is the time summer fruits are coming into season. The Garden Club "Pickers" are ready and willing to harvest these trees for you; don't let the fruit go to waste. The produce harvested will be taken to our local food banks and charities (i.e., the Banning Senior Center, The H.E.L.P. Center). Joy Bailey, (909) 856-4111, and her team are eager to hear from you. They're ready and willing. We'd also like to remind folks that we collect toiletries to distribute to these local charities. If you're doing some traveling this summer and don't use the soaps, shampoos, and lotions that hotels and motels supply, consider collecting them. You can turn them in to any Garden Club member. Better yet, if you're not a member, come to a meeting and check us out. You can drop off the collected toiletries at the entry table when you get a door prize ticket. Who knows, you might win a pony-pack of f lowers that Cherry Valley Nursery donates to us every month. First time visitors are always welcome to attend as our guests. We meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Our President Beverly Agner at (951) 306-7379 is always ready to answer your questions, but if you have membership questions, call one of our membership Co-Chairs Sherry Case at (951) 533-3584 or Linda Powers at (562) 400-0541. Pat Pennington at (951) 314-9229 loves to talk about vegetable gardening and is always happy to answer your vegetable gardening questions. Garden Club One of the things that set the TOPS program apart is group support. No matter what kind of diet or exercise program you follow, no matter what health goals you set for yourself. Just having the support of others who share your goals can help you make changes you can keep for a lifetime. The heart of this change is you.
