| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2025 | 61 Our first rally of 2025 began with various groups going to places they like to stay at instead of driving all the way through. A group of eight rigs stopped at Santa Maria Elks Club #1538. If you haven't been to this Elks Club, it is one to put on your bucket list. It is large with over 3,200 members and a facility that is better than some large lodges. There are sites for just electricity and water, then full hook- ups, and also a number for dry camping. The people here are as friendly as can be. Make sure you're there on a Friday to pick your own steak to BBQ. The town has a rodeo in June, so just another excuse to visit here. Our rally was to the Sun Outdoors Central Coast Wine Country RV Resort, which is an excellent site for camping with families, groups, or by yourself. We had 22 rigs here, plus a couple staying at one of the cottages. Of course there are numerous amenities here, a big water park as you come in, but also numerous wineries for those wine lovers. Hearst Castle isn't too far away if you haven't been there. First night was a get-together and pizza night and lots of fun and games after dinner, with several needing ice packs for their wrists after playing the dice games of Tenzi. On Monday we had a continental breakfast provided by our Trail Boss Lupe and Dan Cardella, whose committee consisted of Tim and Tammy Mahoney, Suzie and Steve Martin and Lyn and Bob Schive, plus a host of wonderful helpers. After breakfast, we enjoyed a game of fish racing held at the wine garden area. Our Game Captain Steve Martin was our director. This turned out to be a lot of fun with Carl Miller coming in first followed closely by Pam Drummond. We will have a summer potluck on July 29. More info to follow. Our fall trip is to Jackson, CA from Sept. 28 to Oct. 3. The campground is Jackson Rancheria. The group has been there several times. The campground is great, the area is very scenic, and everyone that has gone in the past still raves about how nice it is. Trail Bosses are Leon and Harriet Fikse. Don't forget, you do not need to own an RV or any sort to become a member of the RV Club. Most locations we go to have very nice cottages for rent by the day, week, or month. If you're interested in becoming a member, contact Leon Fikse at (909) 831-3809 (President) or Bob Schive at (951) 990-2805 (VP). June happy birthday wishes to our members: Bob Palmer 6/1, Cindy Cross 6/12, Bea Mercado 6/19 and Keith Nemire 6/27. groups going to places they like to stay at instead of driving all the way through.
