AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE CLUB
This month, we celebrate another day of freedom: Juneteenth!
You might ask, why is Juneteenth so significant? Imagine African
American histories and cultures as vibrant tapestries, each thread
telling its own story. By acknowledging these differences, we open
ourselves to embracing and celebrating the rich history of our
neighbors. Even if Juneteenth isn't part of your personal history, it's
a chance for all of us to celebrate the triumph of ideals cherished by
fellow Americans.
The American story isn't built on shared ancestry but on a collective
belief in the shining ideal of liberty. So, when we honor the freedom
of those who have profoundly impacted American history, remember
it's a celebration for everyone! Juneteenth stands for liberty, plain
and simple, transcending racial boundaries.
The African American Culture Club invites you to join us for our
upcoming events. ~ Gwen Terry
Join us June 2 at 4:30 pm as Michael Ryan (at
left) discusses Alexander the Great.
Alexander the Great (356–323 BCE) was one
of history's most brilliant military commanders
and empire-builders. Born in Macedonia, he
was tutored by Aristotle and ascended the throne
at age 20. Over the next decade, he led a series of
conquests that toppled the Persian Empire and
extended his rule from Greece to Egypt, Central
Asia, and India. His strategy combined speed,
adaptability, and psychological warfare, making
his army nearly invincible. Beyond warfare, he
embraced cultural integration, founding cities
and spreading Hellenistic culture across his vast
domain. His death at 32 left his empire divided
but his legacy enduring in history, philosophy,
and governance.
Venture into the realm of Alexander and
become engulfed into the adventures of this
larger-than-life historical marvel.
