28 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2025 | Well, we did it. Our Spring Concert "Reections on Love and Life" given in Abravanel Hall at 2 pm on June 1 occurred by now. But if you are reading this prior to the date above, quickly run down to the Clubhouse and attend a wonderful concert performed by your friends and neighbors who have been rehearsing the program since the rst week in February. As I am writing this article weeks before the actual concert date, I can't say with certainty that the concert took place. A few years ago, we had a concert canceled because of a Covid outbreak in the chorus. We were told to go home while we were warming up in the Lamia Room one hour before the scheduled time of the concert. Hopefully that didn't happen this time. We have worked very hard, and I hope that our performance will be reective of that preparation. As I have said before, we always welcome new members and would love to have you join us. We will start rehearsing for our Holiday Concert in September and you can jump right in and enjoy the camaraderie of our band of merry singers. Rehearsals are on ursdays from 10:15 am until 12 pm. I hope you all enjoyed the concert on June 1st and hope you will spread the word to your friends about our upcoming holiday concert in December. If you didn't make it to this concert, a recording will be made and eventually be shown on the Choral Society website and on Channel 1960. I speak for the entire Choral Society when I say thank you to all for the wonderful support we have received from the community. ere is such joy in music, and it is a pleasure to share it with all of you. Now we will take the summer o and refresh our singing voices for September. Written by Jack Shabel Choral Society e focus this month is on our Papercraing Club Group 3 led by co-leaders Karen Lohr and Chris Sanderson which meets every Friday from 11 am to 1 pm. is calendar year, the group has 16 members, about 10 who are very active. ey consist of a diverse group with a wide variety of experience levels from second year PaperCraers to paper artists who have been creating for over 25 years… Every week a group member volunteers to teach a new technique by oering a new card idea or background which are used in their creations. Both the presenters and members have choice on what project they work on. One of the favorite techniques they use is CAC (Create-A-Card) which involves using a certain stamp, theme, embellishment or background provided to each member prior to a class. e goal is to design a creative card with one of those items. One of the samples accompanying this article is a photo of the Tim Holtz dog stamp collection used in these cards. Other challenging and fun techniques shared with the group include an angle card (another featured in photos) where you try to gure out angles and cuts. Karen explained that the group joins together when they can. ey have learned to adapt to all types of situations that life throws at them. ey still have fun sharing, socializing and creating unique cards. Above photos: Angle Fold technique; Create a Card idea with a variety of dog stamps; and some of the Group 3 members including (L-R) guest, Lisa Seamans, Tatis Cervantes, Janeen Sheelen, and Jeannie Martinsen. Please visit our exhibit in July 2025 in OHCC Art Room. e Papercraing Club was invited to present their combined creative work in the Recreation Center's Art Room to be displayed through July. e exhibit includes various types of paper craing including unique handmade greeting cards using various techniques including heating and coloring Tyvek material (used in mailing envelopes) for a very artsy look and framed wall art featuring button art, and paper weaving.
