| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2025 | 29 Village Vets Sailing Into Summer! Before I launch into my usual monthly message (I promise, no fancy thesaurus words this time), I want to start by thanking everyone who came out for our annual Hot Dog Extravaganza! It was a great event, featuring LCDR Tracy Owens from Support e Enlisted Project, some delicious hot dog's courtesy of Premier Chef Patty Coey and Sous Chef Greg Coey and their awesome team of volunteers, and — most importantly — great company and camaraderie. ank you all! Coming Up Next: Special Veterans Meeting Mark your calendars for Wed., June 25, from 10 am to 12 pm in the Majorca Room at OHCC. We've invited representatives from the Miramar Military National Cemetery Complex to speak about Burial and Memorial Benets available to veterans, their spouses, and families. If you'd like to attend, please reserve your seat by texting or calling me at (209) 663-5088, or by emailing me at bechillnavy@ gmail.com. Need Help with VA Health Care and Claims? I oen get questions about veterans' health care benets, how to le claims, what to do if a claim is denied, and where to nd support. Most claims, including those related to the PACT Act, can be submitted online through the VA website. e most important document you'll need is your DD-214. If you don't have it, the website will help guide you through the process of requesting a copy. If you're not comfortable navigating the internet or prefer in- person help, your rst stop should be a Veterans Service Ocer (VSO). Also known as Veterans Service Representatives or National Service Ocers, these certied professionals provide FREE help with submitting claims. You can nd them locally at: • Veterans Association of North County • County Veterans Service Oce • Disabled American Veterans (DAV) • Local VFW or American Legion Posts What If Your Claim Is Denied? If your initial or follow-up claim is denied, don't worry, there are ways to appeal. A VSO may be able to help, or you might need to work with a VA-accredited agent or attorney. Just a heads-up: these professionals can charge fees, so be sure to do your research before hiring anyone. One More ing: Upcoming Osite Trip! We're also planning our annual osite outing — likely to San Diego or Point Loma. Details are still in the works, but I'll share more information as soon as it's conrmed. Stay tuned! And! Happy 250th Birthday United States Army on June 14. at's also Flag Day, so raise the Star and Stripes and a beverage or two! "e Save the Monarch Buttery Club (SMBC), established and awarded club status in 2021, is currently recognized by the OHSC as the sole club with access to the buttery sanctuary. Although it does not currently hold club status within OHSC, it has been granted club privileges by the Master Board and has access to common property and amenities such as the buttery sanctuary and free use of meeting rooms and Clubhouse facilities. If you would like to take a more active role in the SMB Club either as a Board member, sanctuary volunteer, or committee volunteer, please reach out to any of the interim Directors.
