38 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2025 | Greetings, sailors! Here's the latest from the Sailing Club: e sailing club initially projected 10 boats going out in March and April, but by the end of April, we reached 23 boats out on the waters of San Diego. A fantastic turnout and some really exciting sailing! As of this writing we had another 15 in May and 16 planned for June, completing our Cycle Two outings on the water. Looking Ahead to Cycle ree (July & August) Club members should have received an email on May 22 with details on upcoming sails for July and August. Sign-ups will begin June 1 starting at 7 am. So, pick your sails and be ready to sign up. e weather is warming, the rain has stopped, and the overcast has lied, paving the way for fun on the water. A Raddy Shell concert sail is being planned for late August, and a three boat Glorietta Bay ra-up sail is set for July 14. Both of these sails are always exciting and lots of fun! e Club has been busy updating its sign-up guidelines for Cycle ree and beyond. • You may sign up for two sails and list yourself as standby for an additional two sails. • Minors 12 years and older may sail with us with adult supervision. If you are of a mind to take advantage of this, please contact Fleet Captain Charlie Cappello for details. Our Fleet Captain and the Club's Captains and Mates meet monthly to schedule sails. In addition, a lot of training takes place within the Captains and Mates ranks, all of which is designed with crew safety in mind. A couple of pictures of the May meeting are attached. Please note the serious tone of the meetings – the map and the paperwork. e other photo of the tip of Point Loma was taken by our Commodore. If you would like to help sail the boats and you are a Club member, you can avail yourself of a basic training program being planned by our Training Coordinator, Dave Ramgren. Just call Dave at (805) 673-9760. And, if you are not a member? Just join the Club and sail along with us! We wish fair winds and following seas to the Club's members and all our OHCC neighbors. We schedule our hikes/walks as far north as Orange County, as far south as Chula Vista, as far East as Palm Springs, and everywhere in between. Once you catch the walking/hiking bug, you could nd yourself a bit further - in France for example, where I am currently walking approximately 500 miles through old, quaint villages from Le Puy to St. Jean Pied de Port, on the St. Jacques de Compostelle trail. is trail crosses the Pyrenees in St Jean and joins the Camino de Santiago in Spain for another 500 miles.
