Racquet Club e U.S. Tennis Association recently reported that tennis participation is at an all-time high across the country following ve consecutive years of growth. at's music to the ears of our newly reconstituted Racquet Club tennis committee, Margo Barnard, Bill McGrath, David Singer, and Greg Smith, who have gotten organized to oer more ways for our residents to get back into the game. Resident Greg Smith, a USTPA elite professional who splits the year between Oceanside and the desert, has calendared skills clinics and drill sessions for club members over the next few months along with several free classes for OHCC residents looking to refresh their tennis skills. ese small-group sessions require advance sign up and may ll up quickly. Check yers posted at the courts and emails from our Help Desk. Not a member? Email us so we can include you in our "free clinics" mailings. Our tennis group is also adding casual post-play socials to the summer calendar aiming to draw more residents down for friendly competition followed by conversation and camaraderie. If you are or were a tennis player – welcome! Be in touch! Help us expand our prole at OHCC! For pickleballers, the annual Men's Tournament is Sat., June 7. Play kicks o at 9 am on Courts 1 – 7 (adjacent to the Clubhouse) with the nals competition expected to start about 1 pm. Court bulletin boards have the latest schedule. Spectators are welcome and should expect a good show. Several teams enrolled in David Levine's May Team Camp class to hone their partnership play in preparation for the yearly contest. Tournament directors Paige James and Tracy Wilson have an enthusiastic volunteer corps assembled to run all aspects of the tournament and wrap-up party that follows. Aer non-stop pickleball classes during the rst half of the year, lessons will slow down, but not pause, for the summer. Felicity Swerdlow and Ann Rike put together some "summer lite" classes (shorter sessions) and skills drills to keep the momentum going and calendared some "just for fun" round robins. Watch for club emails and check court bulletin boards and the website. Free beginner classes run every month given sucient demand. Summer Chill 3 is coming up on July 27 – make sure this crowd-pleasing Lanai concert is on your calendar. Details in a few weeks. Meanwhile, enjoy yourselves this summer.
