| LIFE IN SOLERA | JULY 2025 | 31 Welcome to the second half of 2025. Our club is looking forward to an active and fun rest of the year. June saw our Bocce Ball Tournament & Picnic. We had teams of two to four players. This month, we are having a Speakeasy on July 12. I hear there will be a bartender making Bees Knees (gin) and Old Fashioneds (bourbon) if you choose. Period dress is encouraged. Don't forget the password to get in. In August, we're planning a casual evening. More info on that another time. In September, we'll bring back a night of progressive wine tasting at three different homes. All homes are almost next door to each other and there is plenty of parking available. This will be a great evening to meet more people in the club. At one time or another you'll be at one of the three homes with everyone enjoying that evening. This takes a little bit of organization so we will be looking for some volunteers to help with getting folks moved between houses that evening. We are also planning a Chinese Festival in October, a Happy Hour in November and of course our Christmas Dinner in December. As always, we are looking for some volunteers to assist in planning, setting up and clean up after our functions. Our programs always have sub-committees to put together our evenings. It is never done by just one person. With new/additional volunteers we can get different ideas going. You don't have to be on the Steering Committee to volunteer to help out on an evening. When you are enjoying wine or other beverage with friends, there's a good chance someone says "Cheers!" and clinks other glasses. But why, how did it start? This wine fact has ancient origins. Cheers comes from the French word chiere which meant "face" or "head" It evolved to mean "gladness"' and is now used to express good hope and encouragement. As for clinking glasses, one theory from ancient times was that clinking full glasses would deter people from poisoning others. If you clink full glasses, the liquid mixes, ensuring fellow drinkers were on good ground. SOLERA SIPPERS
