18 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2025 | SHRED IT EVENT Don't miss this free event you have old documents you need to have shredded! Limited to two boxes/bags per household. PAPER ONLY. No cardboard, e-waste, or metal Sponsored by Securitas Happy Fourth of July to OHCC. We hope to have a sizable number of attendees for our 4th of July Parade and Lunch, on the Lanai. For years, we celebrated by the pool with a buffet BBQ dinner, dancing, and usually warm weather. Residents enjoyed the parade with friends and family participating last year, so we have planned to utilize the Lanai and surrounding areas for the annual celebration. The wristband distribution for guests only has gone smoothly. A sizable number of residents have picked up the two silicone bands that they plan to use the entire summer. Guests are required to display a wristband when using the pool areas. The wristbands will be required through Labor Day Mon., Sept. 1. Children's hours are 11 am to 2 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 3 pm, on weekends and holidays. The Swim and Wellness Clinic will be held on three Saturdays this month on the 12th, 19th, and 26th from 9 am to 10:30 am. This program has been in effect for over 20 years, with resident volunteers teaching their neighbors the basic strokes and perfecting what they may have learned. Special thanks to each of the volunteers for teaching others how to swim, water safety, and the art of basic strokes. The group of Fling Golfers is growing and popular. The trial period for this recent activity ends in August when the Master Board will make their recommendations. This special interest group will host a monthly "Flingfest" event on the last Saturday of June and July, from 3 to 5 pm at the golf course. The back nine remains closed currently. A rendering of the Lake plans can be viewed in the Information Hallway of the Clubhouse. Now that summer is here, we hope that the Pop-ups in the Overflow Parking Lot continue to be supported. We appreciate the efforts of Chez Christophe, Hulena of Ela's Crepes, and La Banana setting up each week to provide an exclusive service to the membership. Eblasts are sent out regularly to remind residents that they will be on site. They are also available for catering needs, so please contact them for more information. The Recreation Department is in full swing as reservations increase with the outdoor areas open for most functions. Whiffle Ball, Fling Golf, Boomers, and Nubees are outdoor activities that welcome newcomers, not to mention the 37 clubs. There are members here who exercise from sun-up to sun-down by walking the 2.0 Loop, floating in the pool, playing Pickleball, and then, dancing at their favorite club nighttime event. There is a 'plethora' of activities (love that word), so get involved — there's no reason to be sitting at home this summer. Leisure activity is good for the mind, the spirit, and the body, but it takes effort to make it happen. See you in the Clubhouse — have a beautiful summer OHCC in Southern California! Joke for July: What did one American flag say to the other flag? Nothing, it just waved! Recreation News By Christy Bessey
