| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2025 |27 Art Lovers Art Lovers brings artists and culture to Ocean Hills. On the first Tuesday of every month at their meeting, there is either a local artist or sometimes folks are brought in from outside. Often films are shown, either about an artist or about their work. As always, Louise Peterson does a wonderful job, setting up our luncheon, which starts at 12:30 pm. No charge. The meeting is in the Mykonos Room and starts at 1 pm, after lunch. President Susan Pick works hard finding artists to appear at our meetings. She also plans trips to local and distant museums. In May, we were fortunate to have resident Pat Campbell at our meetings with a film and a discussion on glass blowing. Something he loves and has been doing for many years, something he started to "add extra credits" in college. He has been involved in many things over the years. (e Village Voice has done an interview of him for July's issue.) In June, Art Lovers sponsored a bus trip to the Bowers Museum in Orange County to see The Terra Cotta Warriors. It was an hour bus ride, but well worth it. The exhibit is exciting! A little history about them. The Qui Shi six-foot-tall warriors were discovered in 1974 by a group of farmers digging a well, in Xi'an, China. The reason they were originally conceived in 248 B.C. was to guard the Tomb of Qui Shi Huang, who was the first emperor of the unified China. There are hundreds of them. In China, one can stand on a balcony to see them all at once. It is breathtaking. We are lucky to have them at the Bowers Museum. And now finally, they are being shown all over the world. For example, the Houston Museum of Natural History, England's World Museum in Liverpool, the Seattle Museum, the British Museum, and recently at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It was also our pleasure this month for the entire Board to honor Rita Montjoy at luncheon. She has been an integral, hard-working member of the Art Lovers Board for years. She has moved across the street. We will miss her, but we wish her good luck in her new home. Of course, July and August will bring more wonderful experiences to our members, join us. Written by Selma Leighton Hello to all you Artistic-Talent-Appreciators out there and Happy July! We are so pleased to draw your attention to the art above the Clubhouse front desk, as we have recently installed a beautiful acrylic work of surging ocean water by resident Bruce Taylor, entitled "Night Wave". We know you must have enjoyed the very detailed previous painting of the Oceanside pier by resident Mike Layne. And the incredible Talent on display in the Art Studio by the Paper Crafters! Yes, paper presses are used to create the finely crafted art work, but the selection of designs, colors, themes, and the assemblage surely reflect the artistic ability of the individuals. Come and enjoy! Wishing you a festive and fun July! Hope you have a fabulous July 4th! If you would like to show your work in the Art Studio, please contact Mike ornton, or the writers of this article Lainy Vinikow and Judy Harris. Art Studio
