At a glance • July - We are dark Monday nights • July 9 – Actors' Workshop • July 16 – Board meeting • July 21 and 22 – Auditions for fall show • July 23 – Play Readers Your board is taking a well-deserved hiatus again this month, after working hard all year long to provide you with entertainment that is creative, funny, fun, meaningful, unusual, exciting, educational, and thought-provoking. Please bear with us as we recuperate. Upcoming events: We are currently finalizing negotiations with a director and playwright for a specially curated show in October. Auditions will be held July 21 and 22. Auditions will be open to the community and participation is limited to Theatre Arts' members. So, member or not, you may audition and, if chosen for a part, you will be asked to join Theatre Arts at that time. Stay tuned to your emails and tubes for details as they emerge. All members are welcome to join the Theatre Arts Wednesday classes, which meet from 1 to 3 pm on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Actors' Workshop is led by Charmayne Huntley (CharmayneHuntley@gmail.com), and Playreaders is led by Anita Simons (ASimonSays@gmail.com). Please check your emails each month for dates, topics and room assignments. Our next regular Board meeting will be held July 16, at 11 am, in a room to be assigned. Regular Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 11 am, and are open to all Theatre Arts members, so please do come and join us. Join Theatre Arts so you can participate in all of our entertainment and activities. Our annual dues are currently $15. With that small amount, you will enjoy all membership privileges. Make your check payable to "OH Theatre Arts" and bring it to the front desk. Include your name, address, email, and phone number on the check. This art has been practiced for over a thousand years. To learn more about this fascinating subject, join us for our July Garden Club meeting featuring Kyle Icke, a member of the San Diego Bonsai Club. Kyle calls himself a bonsai enthusiast and he has been practicing this art (or as he says, he has been playing with little trees) for over 20 years. Kyle will provide his take on the art of bonsai and show you some of his little trees and the tools he uses to work on them. Event Details: Wed., July 9, Abravanel Hall, social time 9:30 am and the meeting starts at 10 am. Join the Garden Club for just $10 per year — sign up at any meeting. Be sure to stop by the Share Table for gardening treasures. We look forward to seeing you! Written by Betsy Davis Garden Club Boomer Connection Boomer Connection Potluck The Boomer Connection meets for happy hour at 5 pm on the first Friday of every month from April through October (weather permitting). We are an informal group that gathers on the Palm Court to socialize and listen to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. In the past, every household brought a dish to share potluck style. If you are comfortable with this, please bring your salad, entree, casserole, hot dish, dessert, etc. along with a serving utensil for the buffet table. If you do not wish to share with the community, please bring your own meal. Everything else is "bring your own," i.e. beverages, dishes, utensils, cups, glasses, napkins. Outdoor games are welcome! For more information and to get on the contact list, email ohccboomers@aol.com. Written by Karla Sando Inspiration Hill As we walk the trail at Inspiration Hill, we are always impressed by the varied community inspirations as expressed on the Donor Bricks. The trail begins by honoring our pioneer OHCC Founders, and continues with those who so bravely served us. There are bricks honoring family members, beloved pets, and favorite universities. What is your inspiration? The HOA continues to take orders for your own personalized bricks. Fill out an order form at the HOA office, and include a check for $75. Your inspiration brick will help line the trail to the top of the hill!
