22 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2025 | Summer is in full swing and you're probably busy with the kids' visits. We've been working hard at Grandma's Closet! Please plan ahead as much as possible, since many items in our inventory are very popular. We recommend securing reservations as soon as you receive your guests' itineraries to avoid being caught short-handed, especially when it comes to our precious little ones. If you need items for babies or young children, Grandma's Closet may have just what you need! We maintain a list of individuals who have items available for loan, including their contact information and the specific items they wish to share. When someone inquires about borrowing, we will provide this list so that the donor and recipient can arrange the details. These loans are intended for our residents' visiting grandchildren. Borrowed items (excluding car seats and booster seats) are not to be taken out of the village or used by anyone other than the borrower. If you have items to loan out — such as strollers, car seats, carriers, Pack'n'Plays, high chairs, books, toys, games, or puzzles -- please email Naomi at NaomiBKatz@iCloud.com and/or Rich at redcisc@ gmail.com. Be sure to include the items, their age-appropriateness, and your name, address, phone number, and email address for inclusion on the list. Should you find yourself in need of an item or two, please reach out to Rich or Naomi, and we will send you the list. Additionally, if your visiting grandchildren have left behind items you won't need for a while, consider offering them for loan at Grandma's Closet. If you have clothing or furniture for babies or children that you can't store or use, please let us know. We would be happy to pick up the items and deliver them to Father Joe's Village, which is always in need. Thank you for your attention and anticipated assistance. Your continued generosity and support are truly appreciated. ~ Naomi B Katz, naomibkatz@icloud.com, (954) 243-4291 Grandma's Closet Shuttle Service After months of writing the shuttle articles everyone knows how I feel about this amenity. This month I wanted to share the experience with someone who has never taken the shuttle before and get a new viewpoint. My friend Penny agreed to go through the process, which requires a visit to the Clubhouse to fill out some simple paperwork, then decide which of the four weekly trips (all to different locations) you would like to be on. You must inform the clubhouse where you would like to go by 3 pm the day before the trip. There are schedules near the front desk with the list of businesses at each location, so it could not be easier. We had a new driver today named Ali. Like Juan, he comes from San Diego but knows the streets around our area quite well (I think). We took a different approach to Bressi Ranch, coming up from the southern side. We went through some beautiful housing developments and saw a lovely park that none of us knew was there. It made for an interesting drive. This time around I met Frances, who is a frequent rider. She went on the morning shuttle to get some regular shopping done, then came back in the afternoon for a trip to Costco. Neither Frances nor her husband drive anymore, so they depend on the shuttle. For a lady who does not drive, Frances gets around and likes to stay active. Two of our regulars, Jan and Bernadette, were on vacation so they could not join us. I am sure they are having a lovely time, but we want them to know we miss them. The people on the shuttle become friends and enjoy being with each other. So, while Frances was off finding bargains, Penny and I had lunch at Panini Kabob Grill. We each opted for a Mediterranean salad, which was delicious and not too bad for a person on a diet. So, what was Penny's opinion of the shuttle? She loved it! She even stated it felt like going to lunch in a limousine! So, if you are no longer driving or you just want the convenience of not dealing with traffic and parking, come join us for a wonderful limousine ride. Written by Lynn Williams
