28 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2025 | Papercraing is Much More an Paper and Scissors. The current exhibit in the OHCC Recreation Center Art Room, running through mid-July, features Papercrafting artists who display a wide variety of art including greeting cards, digital cutting machine (cricut-generated) projects and home décor. These projects are all created with paper. It is the interesting techniques used by the cardmakers/artists that make each display so unique. These techniques are all presented during the year by volunteer members of the OHCC Papercrafting Club to the five groups we've featured in this monthly magazine article throughout late 2024 and the first part of 2025. Classic greeting cards are magically created in various themes with birthday, get well, sympathy or thinking of your sentiments using techniques found online, in books, from tutorials, at classes and from other paper crafters. Themes like animals, birds, f lowers, foliage, ethnicity (like Asian, Hawaiian, etc.) are used by club members with unique die cuts (machine cutouts) and stamps which are incorporated into their cards/framed designs. You'll see these designs displayed by Karen Lohr, Vicki Dibble, Elaine Santi, Kerry Peyton, Tatis Cervantes and Jeannie Martinsen. Whimsical cards, those created with a paper collage technique and die cut circles, are all on display for your viewing pleasure brought to you by Vicki Greene, Rhonda Anchales and Jan Malone. Other techniques featured in the exhibit include the use of a packaging material called Tyvek. By heating Tyvek, you can create a one-of-a-kind card cover which Jan Malone shows us in her display. Also featured in displays are multi-media collage designs, alcohol ink backgrounds, embossing, three-dimensional die cuts, copic pens and watercolor paints. Embellishments like feathers, glitter, beads, blended inks, coins, buttons and charms enhance the card- making experience. The collective display of cards is something to see contributed by Papercrafting's Group 4 members Cathy Andrusky, Sandy Miller, Irma Ojeda, Lynne Head, Young Hi Lee, Heidi Kuhn and Sunny Frowein. The TOTE (Think Outside the Envelope) class features creations using a digital cutting machine called Cricut. This machine was used in the cutting of butterf ly mandalas, unique multi-layered beer, f loral, vehicle and male/female dress cards along with beautiful f loral cut outs, all by Karin Barnes. Other items featured in the exhibit include buttons, paper weaving, upcycled paper products like envelopes and packing materials, colored/patterned and magazine papers used in framed pieces by Kerry Peyton, Jacqueline Ettinger and Lorraine Kleeman. We hope you find time to enjoy the PaperCrafting exhibit.
