| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2025 | 47 It's July! And that means it's time for the Swim & Wellness Club Swim Clinic. This annual event will be held on three Saturdays in July - the 12th, 19th and 26th from 9 to 10 am. Instructions will take place first, for about 30-45 minutes. Then there will be time to practice under a watchful eye. We have several experienced swimming teachers lined up to help you feel comfortable in the water, learn strokes, perfect you're breathing or whatever you need. We do require that you sign up in advance, however, so that we can organize groups according to the level. Contact Robin Ryan at robinryan.a@gmail.com for more information and to sign up. You must be a Swim & Wellness Club member to take advantage of this FREE and FUN service. July is also a time when many residents have visiting families. Remember to stop at the desk to get a wristband for your guests. You'll also be given a copy of the pool rules. Guests must always be with a resident. Another important thing to remember is that kids must be at least five years old to be in the pool or in the pool area. This HOA policy is in place for health, safety and insurance reasons. Compliance makes pool time more enjoyable for everyone! We have been advised by the Master Board not to become involved in altercations - instead call the front gate and ask Security for help. Mark your calendars for the next S & W meeting. We'll gather on the Lanai at 1:30 pm on Wed., Sept. 17. Our club offers three meetings every year that are devoted to wellness — one in January where we invite the whole OHCC community, one in March and one in September. The Board is narrowing down a topic and speaker for the upcoming September meeting. Mark your calendars now and stay tuned for more information. Swimming, water aerobics, and even floating in water increase blood to the brain. This can decrease your risk of stroke and other diseases while having a positive impact on your cognitive function. Being in water improves circulation to help send more blood to the brain. And when you add exercise, there is an even more impressive impact. See you at the pool! Written by Sara Stewart, Club VP Swim & Wellness Club Chair Yoga… think you can't do yoga? Think again! Traditional yoga is modified so we do it sitting in a chair or standing while holding the chair. It helps us improve balance, strength, flexibility, and more. Two professional yoga instructors guide our Chair Yoga practice. We are led by Cheryl Todd on Mondays, and by Jennie MacGoy on Wednesdays and Fridays. This gives us the added benefit of learning from different styles. Each class begins and ends sitting in the chair, with standing practice included for those who chose to do it. Movements can be adjusted for those who want more of a challenge or less. Instructor Jennie specializes in making yoga accessible for older adults and for anyone who prefers not to get down on the floor. Here is what she told me. Chair Yoga may be a great fit if you'd like to: • Manage chronic pain (such as in the low back, hips, neck, or shoulders) • Move your body safely after a recent — or not so recent— joint replacement • Ease arthritis symptoms. • Practice safe movement with osteoporosis • Reduce dizziness or vertigo. • Sleep more soundly • Learn breathing techniques to reduce stress and anxiety. Jennie adds; Beginners and anyone who's ever thought, "l could never do yoga" are especially welcome. Written by Barry Farrell Senior Fitness Club Calorie Free Happy Hour! If you are interested in improving strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning, then you may want to consider attending an aerobics class to see if it fits your needs. This is an all-standing, low-impact class… NO JUMPING! The instructor leads each class in a warm- up session followed by an aerobic portion, and then she does a cool down. Occasionally, there are a few exercises for balance and an easy dance for fun. Light weights are used for the last 10 minutes of class. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am with instructor Christine Alesiani. You can choose the number of classes each week that you would like to attend. Note: There is no class available on the second Wednesday of each month because of the Garden Club Meeting. The cost is $5 per class paid directly to the instructor. You may pay for and try two classes without joining the club. The annual club dues are $ 6 (please make the check to OH Aerobics).
