8 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2025 | Through the last couple of months big changes are afoot. Our new food and beverage partner, CCL (Compass Community Living), brought significant improvement to our dining venues. We seated a new Master Board of Directors determined to move the community in positive directions. Plus, they recently signed a Spectrum contract which delivered a host of new viewing options with some equipment changes. But change is often met with resistance. Seniors may resist change due to a combination of factors including fear of the unknown, loss of control, and cognitive changes. We may also find it difficult adapting to new routines or situations because familiar patterns yield a sense of stability. When feeling a loss of control, clinging to what once was is a natural reaction. We can be quick to judge and prone to condemn any alteration that tampers with our known realities. Yet inevitable change knocks upon everyone's door. We can't control that, but we can choose our response. Let's try some patience. Complaining to neighbors or releasing venom on social media only serves to foster discontent in the community we love. That's not constructive criticism spoken to the right person, at the appropriate time, in order to bring remedy. Patience. Everyone providing these new services needs some time to succeed. Success is paramount and everyone's goal — remember that. We'll never get there as adversaries. The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people. There are many people involved in these changes. They're invested in making the adjustments required for their success. Can't we be willing to allow their success? No one performs well under duress and ill-considered comments to another person can have that effect. We should be careful in what we say. Words have the power to lift spirits or annihilate hope. Patience takes patience, but once you've cultivated the ability to restraint judgment, you have real opportunity to engage in positive steps toward mutual success. ~ Cal Martin From the Delegate Assembly EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE GROUP We meet at 10 am in the Multipurpose Room on the third Monday of the following five months each year: September, November, January, March, and May.
